Arrivals: the name board
Your driver waits inside the Arrivals hall of the terminal with your name on a board, having tracked your flight. Your confirmation gives the exact spot and the driver’s mobile number, so you can message if you are delayed at baggage.
The Pick Up Zone
The car waits in the airport’s Drop Off and Pick Up Zone, a 5-minute walk from the terminal through a tunnel. A September 2025 trade report places the zone on the ground floor of Terminal Car Park 2, covered and with direct access to the terminal. The sat nav postcode for drivers is LU2 9QT.
Departures: the drop-off
We stop in the same zone, help with the bags and you walk to the terminal. The zone charge is £9 for up to 12 minutes, then £1 a minute, so keep the goodbyes short.
The free alternative
The Long Stay car park is free for up to 2 hours. A free shuttle bus runs to the terminal about every 20 minutes, 24 hours a day, taking about 10 minutes. Add 15–25 minutes to the journey. It suits a friend who drops you, not a car with a fixed time to keep.
Blue Badge and Assisted Travel
The airport recommends Terminal Car Park 1 for Blue Badge holders and passengers with booked Assisted Travel (previously Special Assistance): 30 minutes free, with reduced rates up to 24 hours. Tell us at booking and we agree the meeting point.
Why the pick-up is not at the kerb
The terminal-front drop-off has closed, and the airport directs every private car to its Drop Off and Pick Up Zone. The zone is barrier-free and uses number-plate cameras; the operator pays online by midnight the next day. That is why your driver meets you in Arrivals and walks you out, rather than waiting at the doors.
The layout keeps changing
A fire in Terminal Car Park 2 in October 2023 moved the drop-off and pick-up areas for a time, and the airport is planning to grow, so the layout can change. Follow the signs and the driver’s message, and treat your confirmation as the final word on the spot.
One terminal makes it simple
Luton has a single passenger terminal on three piers, so unlike Heathrow or Gatwick there is no terminal to get wrong. Tell us the flight number anyway: we follow it, and move the pickup if it lands early or late.

Private hire and the zone
Pre-booked private hire uses the same Drop Off and Pick Up Zone as everyone else, and pays the same charge. The airport’s taxi page tells passengers to confirm the charges with their company beforehand to avoid extra fees. Flights into Luton: who flies, where they land and when it is busiest
Luton is a leisure airport with a single terminal. This is the traffic that decides your arrival.
Who flies in
Luton is a low-cost and leisure airport: easyJet, Ryanair and Wizz Air have bases there, with flights to Spain, Portugal, Italy, Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean. TUI Airways moved its Luton-based aircraft to Gatwick in 2026, and airlines change their routes every season, so check your own booking. Arrivals come in waves, early in the morning and in the evening, which is when the rank queues.
What a first-time visitor should know
Luton is not in London. It is in Bedfordshire, about 30 miles north, so a taxi to the centre is a long ride and the train is the main alternative. Every international arrival goes through UK border control, and visitors who need an ETA must hold it before they fly. See the border section below for the details.

From the aircraft to the car at Luton Airport
Here is what happens between touchdown and your seat in the car, and how the rank works if you have not booked.
- Off the aircraftAllow a few minutes to walk from the gate to the arrivals area, longer if the aircraft is on a remote stand and you are bussed to the terminal.
- Border control, on international flightsEligible travellers use the e-gates with a biometric passport; others go to a Border Force desk. Visitors who need an ETA must hold it before they fly. Domestic UK flights skip this step.
- Baggage reclaimCheck the airport’s flight board for your belt. Bags can take longer at busy times, which is one reason the waiting time is counted from landing.
- Meet your driverYour driver waits inside the Arrivals hall with a name board, having tracked your flight. Your confirmation gives the exact spot and the driver’s mobile number.
- Walk to the carLuton does not allow pick-ups at the terminal doors, so your driver carries the bags to the car in the Pick Up Zone, about 260 metres and a 5-minute walk through a tunnel. If you paid online, there is nothing to settle in the car.
If you have not pre-booked
Licensed black cabs wait at the rank just beyond Bus Bay A, 24 hours a day, and run on the meter. A marshal directs you to the next available taxi, and all major cards are accepted. Ride-hailing cars use the Pick Up Zone like any other private vehicle.
Recognise a licensed driver
Licensed taxis and private hire vehicles carry a plate and a licence disc issued by their licensing authority. A driver should be able to show an operator booking for you by name. If you are unsure, ask for the booking details before you get in.
Unofficial offers in the hall
In England, a private hire driver may only carry a passenger who has booked. If someone approaches you inside the terminal offering a ride, decline: your pre-booked driver is waiting with a name board, and the black-cab rank is signposted outside.

The ETA
The airport says non-British and non-Irish travellers need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) or an eVisa to travel to the UK, including children and babies. An ETA is linked to your passport and costs £20. British and Irish citizens and people with UK immigration status do not need one. Apply through the GOV.UK ETA page or the official UK ETA app before you travel, and check your nationality there.
The e-gates
Eligible travellers with a biometric passport can use the e-gates where they are open; others go to a staffed Border Force desk. The rules on who may use the gates, including the age of children, have changed and can change again: check the current rule on GOV.UK before you fly. Border Force may ask about your relationship to a child who has a different surname: carry a birth certificate or a letter of permission, and stay together.

One terminal, one drop-off
Luton has a single terminal and a single drop-off and pick-up zone, so the only choice is the time. Allow the 5-minute walk from the zone to the doors, and the queue at bag-drop and security on busy mornings.
The zone charge
Luton charges £9 for up to 12 minutes, then £1 a minute, with a 30-minute maximum stay, and a £95 charge if you overstay (£55 within 14 days). Your booking summary shows any charge that applies to your journey, and the free Long Stay drop-off with the shuttle bus is an option if you are early.

Early departures
Many Luton flights leave early in the morning. The airport advises arriving two to three hours before departure, so the pickup is typically in the small hours. Rail and coach timetables do not cover the whole night, but a car does not depend on any timetable. We operate 24 hours a day.
Late landings
Give us the flight number: we follow it by flight number and move the pickup to the real landing time, with 60 minutes of waiting from touchdown included. A landing after midnight is a delayed flight to us, not a surprise.
Public transport at night
The DART runs through the night, but the trains on either side of it do not, so check the first and last train for your date with East Midlands Railway and Thameslink. With a very early flight, children or heavy bags, a pre-booked car is the simplest plan.

Rail, in a few lines
Luton Airport Parkway is on the Midland Main Line, a few minutes from the terminal. East Midlands Railway runs the non-stop Luton Airport Express to and from St Pancras; Thameslink runs the stopping trains through central London. Neither stops at the terminal: the DART shuttle completes the last mile.

Child seats at no cost
Baby, toddler and booster seats on request. In the UK, children need a child seat until they are 12 or 135 cm tall, with narrow exemptions for taxis and private hire vehicles, so ask for one.
Licensed drivers
A licensed driver carries out every journey, and your confirmation names the driver and the car.
Free cancellation
Cancel free until 24 hours before pickup. After that, and for no-shows, the terms decide what happens.

Blue Badge holders and passengers with booked Assisted Travel can use Terminal Car Park 1, which gives 30 minutes free.

How long does the Luton DART take, and what does it cost?
About 4 minutes between Luton Airport Parkway station and the terminal, £4.90 for an adult single, running 24 hours a day (Luton DART, checked 9 October 2026). Children aged 5–15 pay £2.45 and under-5s travel free. Rail tickets marked “Luton Airport” include the DART fare.
How long does the Luton Airport Express take, and how often does it run?
As little as 32 minutes from London St Pancras to Luton Airport Parkway, every 30 minutes, with fares from £10 that include the DART (East Midlands Railway, launched in 2023; check the current timetable and fares). Add about 4 minutes on the DART to reach the terminal.
Does Thameslink go to Luton Airport?
Yes: Thameslink stopping trains call at Luton Airport Parkway, on the line that runs through central London, and some continue to Gatwick Airport and Brighton. Check Thameslink for the frequency and the fare on your day. Parkway is not at the terminal: the DART completes the journey.
Which is better from Luton to London, a taxi or the train?
The train is cheaper and quick for one or two people with light bags going to a station. The Luton Airport Express and the DART add up to about 40 minutes to St Pancras, from £10. A taxi is for door-to-door journeys, a group, children, heavy luggage, a late landing or any address that is not near a station.
Is a pre-booked transfer cheaper than a black cab from Luton?
Often, and the price is certain. A rank taxi runs on the meter, so the fare depends on the traffic, and a 30-mile journey leaves a lot of room for the meter to climb. Our typical £105–115 per car to central London is fixed before you fly. The train is cheaper again for one person with a small bag.
Does Uber work at Luton Airport?
Ride-hailing cars use the same road and the same Drop Off and Pick Up Zone as any other private vehicle, so the zone charge applies. App fares follow demand and can rise at busy times, whereas a pre-booked transfer is fixed when you book.
Do coaches run from Luton Airport?
Yes. Wikipedia lists the Green Line 757 and National Express A1 to Victoria Coach Station and easyBus to Liverpool Street, and National Express also links Luton with Stansted, Heathrow, Gatwick and cities in the Midlands and the north. Services change, so check each operator’s timetable.
What happens if my flight is delayed or diverted?
If it is delayed, do nothing: we follow your flight number and move the pickup to the new landing time. If it is diverted to another airport, contact us as soon as you know so we can reroute the driver; we cannot promise a refund in every case, so read your terms.
How long will the driver wait at Luton?
Up to 60 minutes after landing is included for airport arrivals, counted from your actual landing time, enough for border control and the carousel. If you are held longer, message the driver.
Do I need an ETA to arrive at Luton?
Most visitors without a visa do. The airport says non-British and non-Irish travellers need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) or an eVisa, including children and babies. Work back from your airline’s check-in or bag-drop deadline. The airport advises arriving 2 to 3 hours before departure. Add the drive time (about 55–95 minutes from central London) and extra for the M1, the M25 and rush hour. If in doubt, take the earlier pickup.
Do you pick up at night or very early in the morning?
Yes, we operate 24 hours a day. Low-cost airlines schedule early departures and late arrivals, so a pickup in the small hours is common. The DART runs 24 hours, but trains and coaches do not cover the whole night, whereas a car does not depend on any timetable. For arrivals we follow your flight number.
Which airlines fly from Luton Airport?
Mainly low-cost and leisure airlines: easyJet, Ryanair and Wizz Air have bases at Luton. TUI Airways moved its Luton-based aircraft to Gatwick in 2026. Airlines change routes every season, so check your booking for your flight; you do not need to tell us the terminal, because there is only one.
Do you provide child seats for Luton transfers?
Yes, at no extra cost. Infant, child and booster seats are available on request: tell us the children’s ages when you book, and as early as you can, because last-minute requests may be harder to fit. Can you take wheelchair users from Luton?
Yes, with notice. Ask for an accessible vehicle when you book and give us the chair’s size and whether it folds, so we can confirm a suitable vehicle for your date. Assistance in the terminal is called Assisted Travel and is booked through your airline or the airport.
Where do Blue Badge holders and Assisted Travel passengers get picked up?
The airport recommends Terminal Car Park 1 for Blue Badge holders and passengers who have booked Assisted Travel: 30 minutes are free, with reduced rates for longer stays up to 24 hours. The main Drop Off and Pick Up Zone gives no Blue Badge concession. Tell us at booking, and we agree the meeting point with you.
Do you offer transfers from Luton to the cruise ports?
Yes: Southampton and Dover are in the price table, and Harwich and Portsmouth are quoted at booking. Southampton is about 95 miles and Dover about 100. We time the pickup to your boarding window, and a car sized to your luggage is planned for cruise cases.

Yes, book early. Luton is a leisure airport, and the summer school holidays, Easter and Christmas fill the terminal and the M1. Silverstone’s race weekends and the Knebworth concerts close and slow the roads. Book your transfer when you book your flight.
Are tolls and the Congestion Charge included?
The fare you are quoted is the fare you pay, and tolls and any Congestion Charge are itemised in your booking summary where they apply. The Congestion Charge zone covers central London, and the Dartford Crossing charge applies on some routes to Essex and Kent. Luton itself is outside both. Ask us if you want it confirmed for your journey before you book.
Can you take me from Luton to Warner Bros. Studio Tour, Whipsnade, Woburn, Knebworth or Silverstone?
Yes, one fixed fare per car to any address. Whipsnade Zoo is about 9 miles (typically £35–45), Woburn about 14 miles (£55–65), Knebworth House about 15 miles (£55–65), the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London at Leavesden about 17 miles (£60–70) and Silverstone about 40 miles (£105–115). Give us the venue, the date and the time of entry and we plan the pickup and the return around it.
What are the drop-off charges at Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and London City?
Heathrow charges £7 each time a vehicle enters a terminal drop-off area, with a 10-minute limit, and Gatwick a £10 minimum for up to 10 minutes (each airport’s own figures, from 1 and 6 January 2026). A 2026 third-party guide lists Stansted at £7 for up to 15 minutes and London City at £8. Each airport sets and changes its own charge: check its website before you travel. If a charge applies to your airport-to-airport journey, your booking summary lists it before you pay.
How many suitcases fit in the car?
Count the bags, not the seats. A saloon takes 4 passengers and 2 large bags, an estate 4 passengers and 3 large bags, and an executive car 3 passengers and 2 large bags. A people carrier or an 8-seater takes more: tell us the number of large cases, cabin bags, pushchairs and golf bags at booking and we choose the vehicle.
Do I tip the driver?
No. A tip is a thank-you, not an obligation. The fare is agreed when you book and tipping is not expected in the UK. Some passengers round up or add a little for help with heavy luggage or an early start; it is entirely your choice.
Can I bring an assistance dog or a pet?
Assistance dogs travel with you at no extra charge. Under the Equality Act 2010, licensed taxi and private hire drivers must carry an assistance dog unless they hold a medical exemption certificate: see section 170. Other pets are at the discretion of the driver: tell us when you book, bring a carrier or a lead, and we confirm before you fly.
What if I leave something in the car?
Contact us as soon as you notice, with your booking reference and the flight number. We ask the driver to check the vehicle and tell you what we find. If you left it in the terminal, ask the airport’s lost property service.
How do I make a complaint?
Write to us first, with your booking reference and what happened. We look into it with the driver and reply. Private hire drivers and vehicles are licensed by a local authority or Transport for London, depending on where they are licensed, and the licensing authority takes complaints about drivers who break the licence conditions.
Are you licensed to operate at Luton Airport?

How do I avoid unlicensed drivers at Luton?
Use the signed rank or a driver who is waiting with your name. In England, a private hire driver may only carry a passenger who has booked. If someone approaches you inside the terminal offering a ride, decline: your pre-booked driver is waiting in the Arrivals hall with a name board.
