Metered figures are guide ranges collected in July 2026 and include the airport supplement; the top of each range reflects the night, weekend and public-holiday tariff. For short runs into Palma the meter and the fixed price are close, so you are buying certainty and a driver who waits. On longer runs the fixed price sits inside the metered range and, unlike the meter, cannot rise with traffic, a night or weekend tariff, mountain supplements or a late flight. Asking to wait for a bigger vehicle sends you to the back of the line unless it is a genuine accessibility need. In July and August that can mean a long wait for a vehicle that may not arrive.

Taxi Palma airport rank
Palma’s rank is well run: orderly, marshalled in summer and rarely the scene of the scams found at some Mediterranean airports. It has rules that are not signposted in English, though, and in August the queue is a real factor in your evening.

Drivers must use the taximeter for journeys within the regulated area, and the official tariff card should be visible in the cab. A polite “how much, approximately?” before you set off is completely standard.
The official tariff has no per-suitcase charge, and wheelchairs, pushchairs and guide dogs travel free. If you are charged for bags, ask to see the tariff card.
Most Palma taxis take contactless, but terminals fail and a few older cars have none. Carry €20–30 in cash as a backup, and ask for a factura if you need a receipt.
Spanish law requires approved restraints for children under 135 cm, with a narrow exemption for taxis on urban journeys. That exemption does not help on a 60 km run to Alcúdia. Rank taxis almost never carry a seat; a pre-booked transfer can supply one.
Adapted Eurotaxi vehicles serve the airport, but there are few of them, so book ahead rather than hoping one reaches the front of the queue.
Every taxi shows its municipal licence number inside and out. Note it, keep the receipt and ask for the official complaints form, the hoja de reclamaciones, which businesses in Spain must provide.

The terminal
Palma has a single passenger terminal, so there is no Terminal 1 or 2 to get wrong. What confuses people is the module system: four boarding piers, lettered A to D, branch off one shared check-in and security core, and the walk to a far gate can take twenty minutes.

New in 2026
The EU’s biometric Entry/Exit System became the only legal way to record a non-EU arrival across Spain on 10 April 2026. Passport stamping has stopped. First-time arrivals on a non-EU passport now have their document scanned, their face photographed and four fingerprints taken. Palma was one of the Spanish airports that reported the worst congestion during the switchover, and the Interior Ministry has since permitted hybrid manual checks when queues surge.
Anyone on a non-EU passport arriving for a short stay, including UK travellers, Palma’s second-largest market. EU and EEA citizens are not enrolled. Legal residents of an EU country are exempt but are sometimes sent to the kiosk queue by mistake, so keep your residence card to hand.
Airports Council International measured processing times rising by up to 70% at peak during the rollout. Your first crossing after April 2026 needs full biometric enrolment; later trips mostly re-verify your face or prints, which is quicker. Your data stays valid for three years.

Border policy is moving quickly, and member states keep limited powers to pause EES checks during peak periods. Check the latest guidance for your nationality before you fly.

PMI is not a notably expensive airport by European standards. Getting into Palma is genuinely inexpensive; the long journeys are where costs build.

Terminal food and drink carry the airside premium, but it is nowhere near the worst offender in the Mediterranean.
The expensive journeys are the long ones. Mallorca’s regulated per-kilometre rate is fair but it accumulates, and a metered run to the far north or east can pass €130.

PMI is one of Europe’s great seasonal airports: a mid-sized regional field in February, a full-blown hub in August. It is a base or focus city for Air Europa, easyJet, Eurowings, Norwegian, Ryanair and Vueling, and virtually every European leisure carrier appears on the board at some point in the summer.

Of the 33.8 million passengers who used PMI in 2025, around 24.8 million were on international flights and roughly 9 million on domestic routes. Germany remains the largest single market, followed by the United Kingdom and then Switzerland.
German and Swiss traffic anchors the shoulder seasons, while British traffic peaks hard in the school holidays. Winter schedules shrink dramatically; from late spring the route map explodes.
