A 16 seater minibus keeps a group of up to sixteen in one vehicle. Whether it carries your group depends on what “sixteen” counts.
Sixteen passengers, plus the driver
A 16 seater minibus is a vehicle with sixteen passenger seats in rows behind a driver’s seat. You book the whole vehicle with a driver, at one fixed fare, so a group of up to sixteen arrives together instead of splitting across several cars.
Why sixteen is the ceiling
GOV.UK says a minibus has between nine and sixteen passenger seats, and the driver of one needs D1 entitlement on a driving licence if the minibus is used for hire or reward (driving a minibus). Anything larger is a coach with different rules.
A minibus, not a taxi
A taxi is a private hire vehicle that seats fewer than nine passengers (section 80 of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976). A ninth passenger changes the vehicle, the licensing and the driver. If your group is eight or fewer, an 8 seater taxi is the simpler booking.

Sixteen seats are not sixteen suitcases
A minibus is built around its seats. Luggage goes in the rear space and on shelves, so the more seats you fill, the less room there is for large cases. Sixteen people with day bags are fine. Sixteen people with a large suitcase each are at the limit of the 16 seater.

Why this matters when you book
A minibus is regulated differently from a taxi. A company that cannot say which licence its driver and its business hold is a company to avoid, however low its price.
What to ask any operator
Ask for the number of passenger seats, whether the driver holds D1 entitlement, whether the operator holds a PSV operator licence, and what insurance covers the group. A good operator answers in a sentence.

What is a 16 seater minibus?
A 16 seater minibus is a vehicle with sixteen passenger seats plus the driver, booked with the driver at a fixed fare. In UK law a minibus has nine to sixteen passenger seats, so it is the largest size before a coach.
How many people fit in a 16 seater minibus?
Sixteen passengers plus the driver. Some operators count the driver within the sixteen and carry fifteen, so ask for passenger seats. Our figure is sixteen passengers, and children count as passengers.
Is a 16 seater minibus 15 passengers and a driver?
It depends on the operator. Some sell a “16 seater” with fifteen passenger seats and call their sixteen-passenger vehicle a “17 seater”. We state passenger seats: ours carries sixteen passengers plus the driver.
How much luggage fits in a 16 seater minibus?
About fourteen large suitcases with sixteen passengers, or a mix of large and cabin bags that adds up to the same. Sixteen people with a large suitcase each is the limit; the planner above shows your exact party.
Can sixteen people with sixteen suitcases fit in a 16 seater minibus?
Not safely assumed. It is at the limit of the vehicle, and the planner rates it tight. If every person has a large suitcase, book the 30-seater coach, or tell us the bag sizes and we confirm before you pay.

Is a 16 seater minibus cheaper than two 8 seater taxis?

Is a 16 seater minibus a taxi?
No. A private hire taxi seats fewer than nine passengers. A vehicle with nine or more passenger seats is a minibus, with different licensing rules. See section 80 of the 1976 Act.
What driving licence is needed for a 16 seater minibus?
D1 entitlement, if the minibus is used for hire or reward. A car licence is not enough for a paid minibus journey. See GOV.UK. Ask your operator to confirm that its driver holds it.
Does a minibus operator need a licence?
Normally yes: a public service vehicle (PSV) operator licence. GOV.UK lists it for driving a minibus for profit. Ask any company to confirm its licence before you pay, and keep the confirmation.
Do 16 seater minibuses have child seats?
A minibus does not have to carry them. GOV.UK says to use a child seat if one is available, otherwise an adult seat belt. Tell us the children’s ages and we ask for the right seats. See GOV.UK.
Can a 16 seater minibus be used for airport transfers?
Yes, with luggage in mind. The driver meets the group at arrivals and follows the flight. The limit is the boot, so declare your cases and use the 30-seater coach if everyone has a large suitcase.
Which airports do you serve with a 16 seater minibus?

Is the 16 seater minibus fare fixed?
Yes. The fare is fixed when you book, with no meter and no surge pricing. Bags are not charged separately, and your booking summary states VAT and the airport and road charges that apply.
Does the driver track our flight?
Yes, from take-off to touchdown. With the lead passenger’s flight number, the pickup follows the actual landing time. Up to 60 minutes of free waiting after landing are included for airport arrivals, per your booking terms.
What if our group lands on different flights?
Tell us in the booking notes. Give each flight number and terminal, and we plan the pickup rather than leave it to chance. If the flights land far apart, two separate pickups may suit you better.
Where do we meet the driver at the airport?
At the arrivals meeting point, under a name board. Your confirmation gives the exact spot for your terminal. Minibuses cannot always use the main forecourt, so keep the lead passenger’s phone on.
Can a 16 seater minibus fit under a car park barrier?
Often not. Many car parks have height barriers that a minibus cannot pass. That is why we agree a meeting point or drop-off that a minibus can reach, and why you should tell us about any restriction at your venue.
Can I book a 16 seater minibus for a wedding?
Yes. Give the ceremony time, every pickup address and the plan for the return as its own journey. Wedding runs are timed shuttles, so a firm schedule helps us confirm the right vehicle and the waiting time.
Can a 16 seater minibus take a wheelchair?
On request, subject to the vehicle. Tell us whether the passenger stays in the wheelchair and what boarding help is needed. We confirm a suitable vehicle for your route and date, and a minibus is not always accessible.
Can a 16 seater minibus do a return trip?
Yes, as a round trip. Add both dates, both times and both flight numbers, and the fixed fare for the way back is shown before you pay. Treat the return as its own journey, because the group often changes.
How far ahead should I book a 16 seater minibus?
A week ahead is a sensible minimum, and longer for weddings, school holidays, bank holidays and event days. Minibuses are fewer than taxis and the first to go on busy weekends.
Can I get an invoice for a business booking?
Yes, by email after booking. If you need a second copy, ask support. A company that travels often can ask us about a corporate account with monthly invoicing.
Can I choose the model of a 16 seater minibus?
