Gatwick Airport taxi: the short version

What most travellers need to know before landing at Gatwick, in four lines.

Quick answers

Gatwick Airport taxi: nine quick answers

The questions travellers ask most before landing at Gatwick, answered first. The detail follows below.

How many terminals does Gatwick have?

Two: the North Terminal and the South Terminal, about 0.75 mile apart and linked by a free shuttle train of about 2–3 minutes. There is no Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 at Gatwick.

How much is a taxi from Gatwick to central London?

Our pre-booked transfer is typically £80–90 per car, fixed when you book. A September 2026 third-party guide puts a black cab at £100–150 and Uber at £60–100. Allow 60–90 minutes by road.

Which terminal does my flight use?

It depends on your airline. On a list dated 30 September 2026, British Airways, Ryanair, Wizz Air, Vueling and Jet2 were at the South Terminal and easyJet, Emirates and Qatar Airways at the North. Check your booking and give us your flight number.

Where do I find my driver?

Inside the Arrivals hall of your terminal, holding a name board. Your confirmation gives the exact spot and the driver’s mobile number. Licensed black cabs wait at the ranks.

How long does the Gatwick Express take?

About 30 minutes to London Victoria, non-stop, every 15 minutes (35 minutes on Sundays), from the South Terminal station.

What is the Gatwick drop-off charge?

£10 for up to 10 minutes on the forecourt, then £1 a minute to 20 minutes, £30 maximum, with a 30-minute maximum stay. A Parking Charge Notice is £100 (£60 if paid within 14 days).

Is there an official taxi at Gatwick?

Airport Cars Gatwick is the airport’s official private hire operator, with kiosks in both terminals. Black cabs use the ranks. We are an independent pre-booking service with a driver waiting for you.

Is a pre-booked transfer cheaper than a black cab?

Usually, and the price is certain. A black cab runs on the meter. A transfer is fixed before you fly, for the whole car, and the driver is already waiting.

What if my flight is delayed or diverted?

If it is delayed, do nothing: we follow your flight number and move the pickup to the new landing time. If it is diverted to another airport, contact us as soon as you know.

Our vehicles

Choosing the right vehicle for your Gatwick transfer

Nine vehicle types, from a car for a couple to a 50-seater coach. The fixed fare is per vehicle, so count the bags, not just the seats.

What to know about child seats, sports equipment and accessible vehicles
ExtraWhat to know
Child seatsInfant, child and booster seats are available on request at no extra cost. In the UK, children need a child seat until they are 12 or 135 cm tall, with narrow exemptions for taxis and private hire vehicles, so give us the children’s ages when you book.
Surfboards, golf clubs, bikesFine with notice. Tell us the item and its length at booking so a vehicle with the right load space is allocated.
Wheelchair-accessible vehiclesRequest one at booking so we can confirm a suitable vehicle for your route and date.

Every vehicle is shown on our fleet page. Models are typical for each class, so your quote confirms what is offered. Tell us your party size and bag count so the right vehicle is allocated.

About 28 miles, 60–90 minutes by road. Our private transfer: typically £80–90 per car, fixed when you book. By train: the Gatwick Express to Victoria in about 30 minutes. Best for: hotels, apartments and meetings, a family with luggage or a late landing. Gatwick to London taxi

Inside London

Where we drop you in London: Victoria, King’s Cross, Canary Wharf and the City

London is one price band but several different arrivals. Here is how each one works, so the driver stops where you need to be.

Canary Wharf, London
Canary Wharf, one of the busiest drop-offs from Gatwick.

London Victoria

About 28 miles, 60–90 minutes by road. Typically £80–90 per car. The Gatwick Express reaches Victoria in about 30 minutes, so the car is for luggage, children, a late flight or a hotel in Belgravia or Pimlico. Gatwick to Victoria taxi

King’s Cross and St Pancras

About 30 miles, 75–105 minutes; the airport lists about 1 hour 45 as its average taxi time to King’s Cross. Typically £85–95 per car. Thameslink runs from Gatwick to St Pancras, the Eurostar station. Best for: a Eurostar check-in deadline, when a fixed pickup time matters. Gatwick to King’s Cross taxi

Canary Wharf

About 30 miles, 75–100 minutes. Typically £90–100 per car. By train: to London Bridge, then the Jubilee line. Best for: offices and hotels in the docklands, where the car stops at the door. Gatwick to Canary Wharf taxi

Airport to airport

Gatwick to Heathrow, Stansted, Luton and London City

Airport-to-airport is a journey of its own: a fixed time, luggage and a connection that will not wait. These are the usual ones, with the same fixed fare and the same flight tracking.

Heathrow Airport

About 35 miles, 60–90 minutes on the M23 and M25. Typically £110–120 per car. Tell us the Heathrow terminal (2, 3, 4 or 5) and your check-in or connection deadline, and we plan the pickup back from it. Public options need a change in London or a coach. Heathrow Airport taxi

Stansted Airport

About 70 miles, 80–110 minutes by the M25. Typically £165–175 per car. For Essex, Cambridge and the budget flights, door to door without a change in London. Stansted Airport taxi

Luton Airport

About 66 miles, 70–100 minutes. Typically £150–160 per car. Thameslink runs from Gatwick to Luton Airport Parkway station in about 1 hour 20 minutes, then a short transfer to the terminal. Luton Airport taxi

London City Airport

About 31 miles, 70–105 minutes. Typically £95–105 per car. By train: to central London, then the DLR. Best for: business flights with a tight check-in. London City Airport taxi

Longer journeys

Beyond the south coast: Oxford, Bristol, Birmingham and the north

The towns around London are the usual ones. These longer journeys use the same fixed fare and the same service, and five of them are in the price table under “Longer journeys across England”.

Sheffield
Long-distance transfers reach cities such as Sheffield on request.

Oxford

About 77 miles, 85–110 minutes, typically £180–190 per car. The colleges, the hospitals and the gateway to the Cotswolds. Gatwick to Oxford taxi

Bristol

About 128 miles, 2 hours 15 minutes to 2 hours 45, typically £275–285 per car. The harbourside and the west, without a change in London. Gatwick to Bristol taxi

Birmingham

About 138 miles, 2 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours, typically £285–295 per car. The NEC, the city centre and the Midlands. Gatwick to Birmingham taxi

Manchester

About 221 miles, 4 to 4 hours 30 minutes, typically £420–430 per car. Door to door for a family or a team with luggage. Gatwick to Manchester taxi

Leeds

About 227 miles, 4 to 4 hours 30 minutes, typically £425–435 per car. The north, with one driver and one fare. Gatwick to Leeds taxi

Anywhere else in England

Reading, Windsor, Cambridge, Canterbury, Chichester, Winchester and the Cotswolds are quoted at booking, one fixed fare per car. For a long journey we suggest a break and tell you the plan before you fly.

How long-distance fares are set: see our long-distance taxi prices guide.

Official operator and charges

The official Gatwick taxi operator, the drop-off charge and what other operators add

Gatwick has one official private hire operator, a set of black-cab ranks and a charge that most guides leave out. Here is what each one means for your fare.

Drop-off, up to 10 min£10The minimum charge on the Gatwick forecourt, then £1 a minute up to 20 minutes.
Maximum charge£30With a maximum stay of 30 minutes on the forecourt.
Parking Charge Notice£100£60 if you pay within 14 days.
Long Stay drop-offFreeWith the shuttle, for up to 2 hours. Blue Badge holders are exempt with a registered plate.

The official private hire operator

Airport Cars Gatwick (Gatwick Cars Ltd) is the airport’s official private hire operator. It has kiosks in both terminals and fixed rates, and the airport says it meets passengers in the arrivals hall only if requested. You can reach it on +44 (0)1293 550000. It does not publish fares on its website, so compare a quote before you decide.

Black cabs and the ranks

Licensed taxis wait at the ranks at both terminals. A rank taxi runs on the meter, so the final fare depends on the road. For a journey of 60 to 90 minutes the meter can be the biggest unknown in your travel budget.

What other operators add

The airport says that operators other than its official partner add the forecourt drop-off charge to the fare. Operators also pay for the private hire waiting area at the South Terminal (£2 for up to 2 hours, £4 for up to 4 hours and £20 for up to 24 hours). That is why a low headline price can grow: ask what is included.

Charges are set by the airport and can change: see the airport’s taxi page. Checked 8 October 2026.

The South Terminal

The larger of the two. It reopened on 27 March 2022 after closing in June 2020, and the railway station is here, so the Gatwick Express, Southern and Thameslink all start at this terminal. Most coaches use its lower forecourt.

The North Terminal

The smaller terminal, linked to the South Terminal and the station by the free shuttle train: 0.75 mile, about 2–3 minutes, running frequently and 24 hours a day. Allow extra time to reach the platform with bags.

Why the pick-up is not at the kerb

Gatwick keeps the forecourt clear. Private hire drivers wait in the airport’s paid waiting area (RH6 0NY, open 24 hours) and meet you in the Arrivals hall, so the exact spot comes in your booking confirmation.

Airline allocation is from third-party lists dated 30 September 2026 and can change; sizes and postcodes are third-party; the shuttle, rail, coach and waiting-area facts are from the airport’s own pages, checked 8 October 2026.

Where Gatwick’s travellers come from

Most of Gatwick’s traffic is leisure: Spain and Italy lead the list, with Dublin the busiest non-holiday route and Dubai the busiest long-haul one. Flights from the Mediterranean arrive in waves at breakfast time and in the late evening, when the rank can queue.

What a first-time visitor should know

Every international arrival goes through UK border control. The e-gates are open to eligible travellers from age 10, and from age 8 with an adult, and visitors who need an ETA must hold it before they fly. See the border section below for the details.

If your flight is delayed, do nothing: we follow the inbound flight and move the pickup. If it is diverted to another airport, call the number on your confirmation as soon as you know.

Arriving

From the aircraft to the car at Gatwick Airport

Here is what happens between touchdown and your seat in the car, and how the rank works if you have not booked.

  1. Off the aircraftAllow a few minutes to walk from the gate to the arrivals area, longer if the aircraft is on a remote stand and you are bussed to the terminal.
  2. Border control, on international flightsEligible travellers use the e-gates with a biometric passport; others go to a Border Force desk. Visitors who need an ETA must hold it before they fly. Domestic UK flights skip this step.
  3. Baggage reclaimCheck the airport’s flight board for your belt. Bags can take longer at busy times, which is one reason the waiting time is counted from landing.
  4. Meet your driverYour driver waits inside the Arrivals hall of your terminal with a name board, having tracked your flight. Your confirmation gives the exact spot and the driver’s mobile number.
  5. Straight to the carYour driver carries the bags and takes you to the car. If you paid online, there is nothing to settle in the car.
Gatwick Airport taxi
A Gatwick Airport taxi transfer.

If you have not pre-booked

Licensed black cabs wait at the ranks at both terminals and run on the meter. Airport Cars Gatwick, the official private hire operator, has kiosks in both terminals. Uber and other ride-apps use designated, signposted pick-up areas.

Recognise a licensed driver

Licensed taxis and private hire vehicles carry a plate and a licence disc issued by their council. A driver should be able to show an operator booking for you by name. If you are unsure, ask for the booking details before you get in.

Unofficial offers in the hall

In England, a private hire driver may only carry a passenger who has booked. If someone approaches you inside the terminal offering a ride, decline: your pre-booked driver is waiting in the Arrivals hall with a name board.

How a meet and greet works at an airport: see our meet and greet guide.

Border checks

Passport control, e-gates and the ETA at Gatwick Airport

Border policy has changed, and it is the part of arrival that nobody can predict. This is what applies to you, and what it means for your transfer.

Border control at Gatwick Airport by type of flight and passport: where you go and what to expect
Your flightBorder controlWhat to expect
A flight within the UKNo border controlBaggage reclaim, then the Arrivals hall

An international flight, a child under 8 or a passport that is not eligibleA staffed Border Force deskQueues can be longer in the summer waves

The ETA

GOV.UK says most visitors who do not need a visa need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) to travel to the UK. The fee is £20, each traveller needs one, including babies and children, and it allows stays of up to 6 months. British and Irish citizens do not need one. Apply through the GOV.UK ETA page or the official UK ETA app before you travel, and check your nationality there.

The e-gates

Gatwick says you scan your passport at the e-gates on arrival. They are open to travellers aged 10 or over with a biometric passport from an eligible country, including the UK, the EU and EEA, Switzerland, the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Since 8 July 2026 children aged 8 to 9 can also use them with an adult, if they are at least 120 cm tall (Heathrow’s immigration page). Younger children and other passengers go to a staffed Border Force desk.

Border rules change: check the GOV.UK ETA page and the Gatwick passport control page before you fly. Checked 8 October 2026.

Flying out

Taxi to Gatwick Airport: from your door to the Departures hall

Most of this page is about arriving. If you are flying out, this is how the journey to Gatwick works and how to choose the pickup time.

  1. Book the pickupEnter your home, hotel or address as the pickup and Gatwick North or South Terminal as the destination, with your terminal and flight time. The booking page shows the fixed fare before you pay. You can book both legs together or add the return later.
  2. Choose the pickup timeWork backwards from your airline’s check-in or bag-drop deadline, then add the drive time and a margin for traffic. Many airlines ask for two to three hours before departure: your booking shows yours.
  3. Meet the driverYour driver is at the address at the time agreed. Your confirmation gives the driver’s mobile number and the vehicle.
  4. Drop-off at DeparturesThe driver stops at the Departures forecourt of your terminal and helps with the bags. Gatwick charges for forecourt stays, from £10 for up to 10 minutes, so keep the goodbyes short. Tell us the terminal at booking: it is on your ticket, or in the terminal table above.

Early flights and late landings

Rail and coach timetables do not cover the whole night. A car booked for a 04:00 departure or a 01:00 landing does not depend on any timetable. We operate 24 hours a day and, for arrivals, we follow your flight.

Two terminals, two Departures halls

The North and South Terminals have separate Departures halls and are linked by a free shuttle train of about 2–3 minutes. A wrong terminal costs a shuttle ride with your bags, and the minutes that go with it. Check your ticket.

The forecourt charge

Gatwick charges at least £10 for a forecourt stay of up to 10 minutes, with a £30 maximum and a 30-minute maximum stay. Your booking summary shows any charge that applies to your journey, and the free Long Stay drop-off with the shuttle is an option if you are early.

Check-in and bag-drop deadlines are set by each airline. The drive times are the typical ones in the table above.

Rail, coach and apps

Gatwick Airport by train, coach and app

Gatwick has its own railway station and a good train service to London. This is how each option works.

Rail, in a few lines

Gatwick Airport station is at the South Terminal, and the free shuttle brings North Terminal passengers to it in about 2–3 minutes. Three train operators serve it: Gatwick Express, Southern and Thameslink. Oyster and contactless cards are accepted between Gatwick and central London; Travelcards are not valid.

Where public transport stops helping

Trains reach stations, not hotels, villas or ports. With bags, children, a late flight or an address that is not near a station, a car that waits is simpler.

Operators, facts and times are from the airport’s transport pages, checked 8 October 2026; train times of 35–45 minutes and the Express fare are third-party figures. Check the operators’ timetables before you travel.

Four things matter more than the headline fare

The first is the number of people, because a car carries up to four for one fare. The second is the luggage. The third is the time of arrival. The fourth is how much a surprise would cost you on a tight schedule.

The calendar

Events that change how you reach Gatwick Airport

A large part of Gatwick’s traffic follows a calendar that repeats every year. On these dates the M23, the M25 and the trains stop behaving normally, so book your transfer when you book your flight.

Cruise passengers

Many cruise passengers arrive at Gatwick from overseas and travel on to the ship. We time the pickup to your boarding window and plan a car for large cases. Harwich and Tilbury are quoted at booking. The table above gives the usual ports: see the pages for Southampton, Portsmouth and Dover.

Airport hotels

Hotels around the airport, such as the Sofitel London Gatwick, Hampton by Hilton, Courtyard by Marriott, BLOC and YOTELAIR, are minutes from the terminals, and many run their own shuttle, so check first. For a hotel in Crawley we drop you at the door, typically £25–30 per car. Gatwick to Crawley taxi.

Private jets and business aviation

Redhill Aerodrome and Biggin Hill are the nearby airfields. Tell us the handler’s name and the aircraft registration when you book, and we plan the pickup at the handler, not at a terminal.

Groups and business travel

Weddings, teams and tour groups travel in a 16-seater, a 30-seater or a 50-seater coach, planned in advance. Companies that book regularly can ask about a business account: invoicing and reporting are agreed with our team before they are promised.

Groups and luggage

Count the bags, not the seats

The most common booking mistake at an airport is a car for four adults with four large suitcases. Four people fit. Four people and four large cases do not.

What is included

What is included in the price

Every extra that a meter or an app might add is covered in the fare you are quoted. The conditions behind each line are in our terms and in your confirmation.

A driver at Arrivals

Your driver waits at the arrivals meeting point holding a name board, and helps with the luggage.

Your flight, followed

We track your inbound flight, so a delay simply moves the pickup to the new landing time.

An hour of free waiting

For airport arrivals the first 60 minutes after landing cost nothing, enough for the border and the carousel (see your booking terms).

One fixed fare

The fare is agreed at booking, for the vehicle and not per person. VAT, airport charges and any tolls are itemised in your booking summary.

Child seats at no cost

Baby, toddler and booster seats on request. In the UK, children need a child seat until they are 12 or 135 cm tall, with narrow exemptions for taxis and private hire vehicles, so ask for one.

Licensed drivers

A licensed driver carries out every journey, and your confirmation names the driver and the car.

Free cancellation

Cancel free until 24 hours before pickup. After that, and for no-shows, the terms decide what happens.

Someone to call

Phone, WhatsApp or email, from booking until you reach your hotel or villa.

Luggage within the vehicle’s capacity is part of the fixed fare. Extra stops and waiting beyond the included time are quoted on request.

How it works

From touchdown to your hotel or villa

It takes a few minutes to book. Here is what happens next.

  1. Book with your flight number

It is the field that matters most. We follow the real landing time, so a late arrival or an early one changes nothing for you.

  2. Get your driver’s details

Before pickup you receive the driver’s name, mobile number and the meeting point. Keep your phone on when you switch off flight mode.

  3. Walk out to a name board

Border control and baggage can take longer than planned, and up to 60 minutes of waiting after landing are included for airport arrivals. If you are held longer, message the driver.

  4. Pay what the confirmation says

You pay securely online when you book, and your confirmation is emailed once the payment is processed. The fare on it is the fare you pay.

Questions

Gatwick Airport taxi: your questions answered

How much is a taxi from Gatwick Airport to central London?
Our pre-booked private transfer is typically £80–90 per car to central London, fixed when you book, with a driver waiting inside Arrivals and 60 minutes of waiting after landing included. A third-party guide from September 2026 puts a black cab at £100–150 and Uber at £60–100, both variable with traffic and demand. The fare is per car, not per person.
How far is Gatwick Airport from central London?
About 28 miles by road (the airport’s guides give between 27 and 30, depending on the address), and allow 60–90 minutes by car. The Gatwick Express takes about 30 minutes to Victoria. The airport’s own table of average taxi times gives about 1 hour 45 minutes to King’s Cross at the slowest.
Which is better from Gatwick to London, a taxi or the Gatwick Express?
The train is faster and cheaper for one or two people with light bags, to Victoria. The Gatwick Express is non-stop, every 15 minutes, about 30 minutes (35 on Sundays). A taxi is for door-to-door journeys, a group, children, heavy luggage, a late landing, or any address that is not near a station.
What is the Gatwick Airport drop-off charge?
£10 minimum for up to 10 minutes on the forecourt, then £1 a minute up to 20 minutes, with a £30 maximum and a 30-minute maximum stay. The £10 minimum applies from 6 January 2026. The airport says other operators add the charge to the fare. A Parking Charge Notice is £100 (£60 if paid within 14 days). Drop-off at the Long Stay car park with the shuttle is free for up to 2 hours. Blue Badge holders are exempt with a registered plate.
Is the Gatwick drop-off charge included in your fare?
Your booking summary itemises it before you pay. The fare you see on the booking page is the fare you pay, and airport access charges, tolls and any Congestion Charge are listed there where they apply. Ask us if you want the drop-off charge or the free Long Stay option explained for your journey.
How many terminals does Gatwick have?
Two: the North Terminal and the South Terminal, about 0.75 mile (1.2 km) apart. There is no Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 at Gatwick. A free shuttle train runs between them in about 2–3 minutes and the airport says it runs frequently. The South Terminal is the larger one.
Which terminal does my flight use at Gatwick?
It depends on the airline, and some airlines use both. On a third-party list dated 30 September 2026, British Airways, Ryanair, Wizz Air, Vueling, Jet2, TAP and Turkish Airlines were at the South Terminal, and easyJet, Emirates, Qatar Airways, SWISS, ITA Airways and Delta at the North. Norwegian and TUI appear in both lists. Check your booking or the airport flight board, and give us your flight number.
Where does my driver meet me at Gatwick?
Inside the Arrivals hall of your terminal, with a name board. Your confirmation gives the exact spot and the driver’s mobile number. The airport’s official private hire operator meets in the hall only if requested, so we agree the spot with you in advance and message you when the driver is in place.
Who is the official taxi operator at Gatwick?
Airport Cars Gatwick is the airport’s official private hire operator, with kiosks in both terminals and fixed rates. Black cabs wait at the ranks. We are an independent pre-booking service: we do not use the kiosks, and the driver is waiting for you with your name on a board. Choose what suits your plans; for a fixed fare agreed before you fly, book ahead.
Is there a taxi rank at Gatwick Airport?
Yes, licensed taxis wait at the ranks at both terminals. A rank taxi runs on the meter, so the final fare depends on traffic. A pre-booked private hire car is a different service: the fare is fixed at booking and the driver is waiting for you.
How long does the Gatwick Express take, and how often does it run?
About 30 minutes, every 15 minutes, non-stop to London Victoria from the South Terminal station (35 minutes on Sundays), according to the airport. Southern and Thameslink also run to central London in roughly 35–45 minutes. Oyster and contactless cards are accepted between Gatwick and central London; Travelcards are not valid.
How do I get between the North and South Terminals?
By the free shuttle train, about 2–3 minutes, 0.75 mile, running frequently and 24 hours a day. Allow extra time for the walk to the platform. Check your terminal first: a wrong one costs a shuttle ride with your bags.
Do National Express coaches run from Gatwick?
Yes. National Express and The Oxford Airline serve Gatwick, and most coaches use the lower forecourt at the South Terminal, the airport says. Check the operator’s timetable for your destination and book ahead for busy weekends.
Does Uber work at Gatwick Airport?
Yes, from designated, signposted pick-up and drop-off areas. A 2025 third-party guide says Uber pick-ups are in the short-term car parks at the North and South Terminals, that drivers wait at the New Gatwick car park (Beehive Ring Road, RH6 0PB) and that the rider pays the parking fee through the app. Follow the signs and check the Uber app for the current point. App fares follow demand and can rise at busy times, whereas a pre-booked transfer is fixed when you book.
Is a pre-booked transfer cheaper than a black cab from Gatwick?
Usually, and the price is certain. A black cab runs on the meter, and a September 2026 third-party guide puts a central London fare at £100–150. Our typical £80–90 per car to central London is fixed before you fly. The train is cheaper again for one person with a small bag.
What happens if my flight is delayed or diverted?
If it is delayed, do nothing: we follow your flight number and move the pickup to the new landing time. If it is diverted to another airport, contact us as soon as you know so we can reroute the driver; we cannot promise a refund in every case, so read your terms.
How long will the driver wait at Gatwick?
Up to 60 minutes after landing is included for airport arrivals, counted from your actual landing time, enough for border control and the carousel. If you are held longer, message the driver.
Do I need an ETA to arrive at Gatwick?
Most visitors without a visa do. GOV.UK says each person, including babies and children, needs an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA), which costs £20. British and Irish citizens do not need one. Apply before you travel, using the official GOV.UK ETA page or the UK ETA app, and check your nationality there.
Can I use the e-gates at Gatwick?
Yes, with an eligible biometric passport, from age 10, and from age 8 if you travel with an adult and are at least 120 cm tall. Children aged 8 to 9 have been able to use the gates since 8 July 2026 (Heathrow’s immigration page). Gatwick lists the UK, EU/EEA countries, Switzerland, the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand among the eligible countries. Children under 8 go to a staffed Border Force desk, as do passengers from other countries. Your driver follows your landing time, not your exit time.
Can I book a taxi to Gatwick Airport for my departure?
Yes. Enter your home, hotel or address as the pickup and Gatwick North or South Terminal as the destination, with your terminal and flight time; the booking page shows the fixed fare before you pay. You can book the arrival and the return together or add the return later.
How early should my taxi pick me up for a flight from Gatwick?
Work back from your airline’s check-in or bag-drop deadline. Many airlines ask for two to three hours before departure; your booking shows yours. Add the drive time (about 15 minutes from Crawley, 45 minutes from Brighton, 60–90 minutes from central London) and extra for the M23, the M25 and rush hour. If in doubt, take the earlier pickup.
Do you pick up at night or very early in the morning?
Yes, we operate 24 hours a day. A car booked for a 04:00 departure or a 01:00 landing does not depend on a rail or coach timetable, and for arrivals we follow your flight number.
Do you provide child seats for Gatwick transfers?
Yes, at no extra cost. Infant, child and booster seats are available on request: tell us the children’s ages when you book. In the UK, children need a seat until they are 12 or 135 cm tall, with narrow exemptions for taxis and private hire vehicles: see the GOV.UK rules.
Can you take wheelchair users from Gatwick?
Yes, with notice. Ask for an accessible vehicle when you book and give us the chair’s size and whether it folds, so we can confirm a suitable vehicle for your date. Do not rely on one being free at the rank.
Do you offer transfers from Gatwick to the cruise ports?
Yes: Southampton, Portsmouth and Dover. Southampton is about 72 miles and Portsmouth about 59, from the airport. We time the pickup to your boarding window, and a car sized to your luggage is planned for cruise cases. Typical prices are in the table above, fixed when you book.
How much is a taxi from Gatwick to Brighton?
Typically £90–100 per car for about 27 miles and about 45 minutes, which is the airport’s own average taxi time to Brighton. Direct trains take about 30 minutes, so the taxi suits a group, a hotel away from the station or a late arrival.
How much is a taxi from Gatwick to Heathrow?
Typically £110–120 per car for about 35 miles. Allow 60–90 minutes on the M23 and M25 and add buffer for a connecting flight: the airport-to-airport journey is the one where traffic hurts most. Tell us the Heathrow terminal (2, 3, 4 or 5) and the check-in deadline, and we plan the pickup back from it. Public options are slow and need a change in London or a coach. See our Heathrow Airport taxi page.
Can you take me from Gatwick to Southampton or Portsmouth for a cruise?
Yes. Southampton is typically £185–195 and Portsmouth £165–175 per car, fixed when you book. The airport lists an average taxi time of about 1 hour 45 minutes to Southampton, so we plan the pickup back from your boarding time.
Do you cover long-distance transfers from Gatwick?
Yes: Oxford, Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds are in the table above as fixed fares per car. For other towns, give us the address and we quote it. For a group with luggage, one car door to door is often simpler than several train changes.
Do I need to pre-book for Wimbledon, Glastonbury or the school holidays?
Yes, book early. Wimbledon runs from 28 June to 11 July 2027 and Glastonbury from 23 to 27 June 2027. Roads and trains fill, rank queues lengthen and cars sell out in the summer holidays and at Christmas, so book your transfer when you book your flight.
Are tolls and the Dartford Crossing included?
The fare you are quoted is the fare you pay, and tolls and any Congestion Charge are itemised in your booking summary where they apply. The Dartford Crossing charge applies on some routes to Essex and Kent. Ask us if you want it confirmed for your journey before you book.
Are you licensed to operate at Gatwick?
Global Airport Taxi is a trading name of QMH Technologies Ltd (company no. 13506378). A licensed driver and a licensed vehicle carry out every journey, and your confirmation names both.
How do I avoid unlicensed drivers at Gatwick?
Use the signed rank, the official operator’s kiosk or a driver who is waiting with your name. In England, a private hire driver may only carry a passenger who has booked. If someone approaches you inside the terminal offering a ride, decline: your pre-booked driver is waiting in the Arrivals hall with a name board.
How busy is Gatwick Airport?
It handled 42.8 million passengers in 2025, down 1.1% on 2024 (43.2 million), according to the CAA and airport reports. It is the UK’s second-largest airport after Heathrow, with 57 airlines and long-haul traffic up 3.3%. The busiest international routes in 2025 were Malaga, Barcelona, Dublin, Dubai, Alicante and Rome.
Can you take me from Gatwick to Stansted, Luton or London City?
Yes. Typical prices per car, fixed when you book: London City about 31 miles, £95–105; Luton about 66 miles, £150–160; Stansted about 70 miles, £165–175. Allow 70–110 minutes by road, more at rush hour, and take the earlier pickup for a flight. See the Stansted, Luton and London City airport pages.
Can I book a return transfer to and from Gatwick?
Yes. Book the arrival and the return together, or add the return later from your confirmation. Each leg shows its fixed fare before you pay. Choose the Gatwick terminal for each leg separately, because your return flight may leave from the other terminal.
Can you take me to a hotel near Gatwick Airport?
Yes. Hotels around the airport, such as the Sofitel London Gatwick, Hampton by Hilton, Courtyard by Marriott, BLOC and YOTELAIR, are minutes from the terminals, and many run their own shuttle, so check first. For a hotel in Crawley we drop you at the door, typically £25–30 per car: see Gatwick to Crawley taxi.
What postcode do I use for the Gatwick terminals?
Third-party guides give RH6 0NP for the South Terminal and RH6 0PJ for the North Terminal. Your booking asks for the terminal by name and your driver follows your flight, so you do not need a postcode for an arrival pickup. For a drop-off, give the driver the terminal name as well as the postcode.
Can you take me from Gatwick to the Isle of Wight ferry?
Yes: to the ferry terminals at Portsmouth or Southampton. Portsmouth is about 59 miles (typically £165–175) and Southampton about 72 (typically £185–195). Tell us the ferry operator and the sailing time and we plan the pickup back from the check-in deadline. See Gatwick to Portsmouth and Gatwick to Southampton.
How much is an executive car or an 8-seater from Gatwick?
To central London, typically £95–105 for an executive car and £125–135 for an MPV of up to 8 passengers, against £80–90 for a saloon. To Brighton: £120–130, £160–170 and £90–100. Estates, people carriers and minibuses are quoted at booking: see the fleet.
Can you take me from Gatwick to St Pancras for the Eurostar?
Yes. Typically £85–95 per car to King’s Cross and St Pancras, 75–105 minutes by road. Thameslink also runs from Gatwick to St Pancras. Work back from your Eurostar check-in deadline and take the earlier pickup. See Gatwick to St Pancras taxi.
