The questions travellers ask most before choosing a vehicle, answered in a few lines each. The detail follows below.
How many passengers fit in a saloon?
Up to 4, with 2 large suitcases and 2 hand bags, or 3 passengers with 3 large suitcases. An executive car carries 3 passengers, an estate 4 with more luggage.
What is the cheapest vehicle?
The saloon. From central London it starts at £40 to London City and £45 to Heathrow. An estate typically costs about £10 more, an MPV about £20 more and an executive car about £40 more (indicative).
What is a 7-seater or 8-seater taxi?
A 7-seater is an executive MPV (a Mercedes V-Class or similar) and an 8-seater is a van (a Ford Tourneo or similar) or an 8-seater minibus, each with room for 7 or more bags.
Do you have minibuses and coaches?
Yes: a 16-seater minicoach, a 30-seater coach and a 50-seater coach. Price and availability are quoted on request by email or WhatsApp, because they depend on the route, the date and the group.
Are child seats free?
Yes. Baby, toddler and booster seats are available on request at no extra cost in every class. Give each child’s age when you book, and mention your bags because a seat takes space.
Can I choose the exact car model?
You choose the class and capacity, not the make. Every vehicle is listed as “or similar”, and you are matched with the best available car. Hybrid and electric models can be noted as a preference but not guaranteed.
Is the fare fixed in every vehicle?
Yes, for the vehicles booked online. The fixed fare appears before you pay, with no surge pricing. Minicoaches and coaches are quoted per journey and confirmed before you commit.

Vehicle names
Saloon, sedan, MPV, minivan: vehicle names around the world
The same vehicle has different names in different countries. Here is how they map to our fleet.
Same vehicle, different name
A saloon is called a sedan in the United States, an estate is a station wagon and an MPV is a minivan. Operators also use “economy”, “standard”, “business” and “premium” for car classes, and a number plus “pax” for the size.
Why capacity differs by country
In the United States and Australia a sedan is usually described as three passengers with standard luggage. In the UK a saloon is also sold for four passengers with a lighter load. Our figures state both, so check the boot as well as the seats.

How many passengers and bags fit in each vehicle?
One standard for every class. The boot, not the seats, usually decides, and the most common mistake is four adults with four large suitcases.

What sets the price
Distance and the pickup postcode come first, then the vehicle class and any road charges that apply. The fare is fixed when you book and does not change with traffic or the time of day on the booking you confirm.
How a bigger vehicle changes it
Each step up adds a predictable amount: about £10 for an estate, £20 for an MPV and £40 for an executive car on the same route. Vans, minibuses and coaches are priced by the journey.

At airport arrivals your driver waits at the meeting point with a name board and helps with the bags.

Journeys are carried out by licensed drivers. On London journeys they are TfL-licensed, with a PCO badge, and DBS-checked.

Saloon, estate, MPV, van or coach: how to choose between them
The questions that decide most bookings, answered pair by pair.
Saloon or estate?
A saloon and an estate carry a similar number of passengers, but the estate has the larger boot. Choose the saloon for standard bags and the estate for extra cases, golf bags or a pushchair. See the saloon and the estate.
Saloon or executive car?
The executive car is a higher-specification saloon for three passengers, with more legroom and a quieter ride; the saloon is the standard class for four. Choose executive for clients and occasions. See the executive car.
Estate or MPV?
An estate suits up to four passengers with lots of luggage; an MPV suits five or six. If you have five people, or four with more than four large cases, choose the MPV. See the people carrier.
MPV or van?
An MPV takes up to six passengers with four to five large cases. A van takes eight with up to seven bags, so choose it for seven or eight people or a big family with luggage.
Van or 8-seater minibus?
Both carry eight passengers. The van suits eight people with standard bags; the minibus is the choice when the group has more luggage, ski or golf bags. See the 8-seater minibus.
Minicoach or coach?
A 16-seater minicoach suits teams, tours and family reunions of nine to sixteen. A 30- or 50-seater coach suits conferences, schools and large tours. See the 16-seater, 30-seater and 50-seater.

Business and corporate airport transfers
Punctual, accountable and easy to expense. Choose by the people you are collecting, not by the badge on the car.
Executive car for clients
An executive car, a Mercedes E-Class or similar, carries three passengers with more legroom and a quieter ride than a saloon. It suits client pickups, board visits and special occasions.
A saloon for everyday business travel
For one to four colleagues with standard bags, a saloon at the lowest fare is usually the sensible choice. An invoice is emailed after you book, which makes expenses simple.
Teams and delegations
Several vehicles can be booked together for one group, from saloons to coaches, with one pickup plan. Tell us the numbers, the luggage and the arrival times.
Families
Family airport transfers: child seats, pushchairs and space
Travelling with children changes the maths. The seat, the pushchair and the bags all need room.
Child seats are free
Baby, toddler and booster seats are available on request at no extra cost in every class. Give each child’s age and weight when you book so we provide the right seat type: infant carrier, toddler seat or booster.
A seat takes space
A fitted child seat uses seat or boot room, so a saloon that fits four adults and two cases may not fit two adults, two children, two seats and four cases. When in doubt, choose an estate or MPV.
Pushchairs
A folded pushchair counts as one large case. Mention it when you book so the vehicle is sized correctly.
Groups
Group transfers: minibus, minicoach and coach
From a family reunion to a 50-seat conference transfer, the same tracking, name board and driver standard.
One booking for one group
Large groups can be split across several vehicles on one booking. Give us the group size, the luggage and the arrival times, and we coordinate the mix: for example a minicoach plus an MPV.
Minicoaches and coaches
The 16-seater minicoach, the 30-seater coach and the 50-seater coach are quoted per journey. Email bookings@globalairporttaxi.com or message us on WhatsApp with the route, the date, the group size and the luggage.
How far ahead
Book standard journeys at least 24 to 48 hours ahead. Allow more time for minibuses, coaches, large groups, special luggage, school holidays and very early collections.
Accessible travel
Accessible and wheelchair-friendly airport transfers
Step-free travel needs to be arranged in advance, so tell us what you need when you book.
Wheelchair-accessible vehicles
Wheelchair-accessible vehicles are available on request. Tell us the type of wheelchair, the number of passengers and your luggage when you book so we can confirm availability for your route.
Reduced mobility without a wheelchair
For passengers who need extra help with steps or bags, tell us in the booking notes and your driver will assist at the pickup. A larger vehicle with more space is often easier to board.
Assistance at the airport
Airports provide their own assistance service for passengers with reduced mobility, usually arranged through your airline. Your driver meets you at the arrivals point in your confirmation.
Availability of wheelchair-accessible vehicles depends on the airport and the date, and is confirmed after you ask.

Hybrid and electric cars
Hybrid and electric cars of the same size as a saloon, such as the Toyota Prius or Tesla Model 3, are part of the fleet. They are allocated by availability, so a preference can be noted but not guaranteed.
How models are named
Every model is listed as “or similar”. You are guaranteed the class, the passenger capacity and the luggage space, and matched with the best available car for your trip.

Airport taxis in the UK: what is different
The UK has its own words and rules for airport taxis. Here is what matters when you book from London, Manchester or any UK airport.
Private hire, minicab and black cab
A pre-booked car with a driver in the UK is a private hire vehicle, often called a minicab. Private hire vehicles must be booked in advance, while a black cab can be hailed at a rank and runs on a meter. Our fixed fares apply to pre-booked private hire journeys.
Licensed drivers
London private hire drivers are licensed by Transport for London (TfL) and carry a PCO badge, and ours are DBS-checked. Outside London, drivers are licensed by their local council.
UK vehicle sizes
In the UK a saloon is sold for four passengers with two large suitcases and two hand bags, an estate for four with more luggage, an MPV or people carrier for five or six, and an 8-seater minibus for eight. See the saloon page for the details.

Who carries out your transfer
We are a booking platform. Your transfer is carried out by a licensed private hire driver. On London journeys, drivers are TfL-licensed and DBS-checked, and your confirmation shows the driver and vehicle details.
Payment and your data
Payments are processed securely through Stripe, PayPal or other certified gateways with SSL encryption, and you can pay by card, PayPal or Google Pay. Your data is handled under the UK Data Protection Act and GDPR.

Airport taxi fleet: your questions answered
How do I choose the right vehicle for my airport transfer?
Count passengers first, then large suitcases, then the occasion. One to four people with standard bags fit a saloon, five or six an MPV, seven or eight a van, nine to sixteen a minicoach and more a coach. When in doubt, size up.
How many passengers fit in each airport taxi class?
Saloon 4, executive car 3, estate 4, MPV 5 to 6, executive MPV 7, van 8, 8-seater minibus 8, minicoach 16, coaches 30 and 50. The luggage you carry can lower these numbers, so check the boot as well as the seats.
Do you offer the same vehicles in the UK and abroad?
The same classes, with local models. Saloon, estate, MPV, van, minibus and coach are offered in the UK and at airports in 81 countries. Makes, models and availability vary by airport, and the booking page shows what is available for your route.
How many suitcases fit in each class?
Saloon and executive car 2 large plus 2 hand bags, estate 3 plus 3, MPV 4 to 5 large, executive MPV and van up to 7 bags, minicoach 14 bags, and coaches 30 and 48. For sports gear or oversized items, tell us when you book.
What is the difference between a saloon and an estate?
Luggage space. A saloon and an estate carry a similar number of passengers, but an estate has the larger boot. Choose a saloon for standard airport luggage and an estate for extra suitcases, golf bags, ski bags or a pushchair.
What is the difference between a saloon and an executive car?
Specification and comfort. An executive car, a Mercedes E-Class or similar, carries three passengers with more legroom and a quieter ride. A saloon is the standard class for four passengers at the lowest fare.
Is a sedan the same as a saloon?
Yes. Saloon is the UK name and sedan the US name for a four-door car with a separate boot. In our fleet both mean the same class, which takes 3 passengers with 3 large suitcases or 4 passengers with lighter bags.
What is the difference between a private hire taxi and a black cab?
Private hire must be pre-booked, a black cab can be hailed. In the UK a pre-booked car with a driver is a private hire vehicle or minicab with a fixed fare, while a black cab runs on a meter. Ours are pre-booked private hire journeys.
Should I book an estate or an MPV?
An estate for up to four passengers with lots of luggage, an MPV for five or six. If you have five people, or four people with more than four large cases, choose the MPV.
What is a 5-seater taxi?
A 5-seater taxi is an MPV, a Vauxhall Zafira or similar. It takes up to five passengers with up to four large suitcases and suits a family of five or a small group.
What is a 6-seater taxi?
A 6-seater taxi is an MPV people carrier. It takes up to six passengers with four to five large suitcases and suits larger families and groups of six.
Is a minivan the same as an MPV?
Yes, broadly. MPV, people carrier and minivan all mean a multi-purpose vehicle with five to seven seats. Our MPV takes 5 to 6 passengers, and the executive MPV takes up to 7.
How many passengers does a saloon take in the UK and in the US?
Four in the UK, usually three in the US. A UK saloon is sold for four passengers with two large suitcases and two hand bags. A US sedan is usually described as three with standard luggage. Our class takes 3 with 3 large cases or 4 with lighter bags.
What is a 7-seater taxi?
A 7-seater taxi is an executive 7-seater or an executive MPV, a Mercedes V-Class or similar. It carries up to seven passengers with up to seven bags and suits groups who want comfort, such as families or corporate teams.
What is an 8-seater taxi?
An 8-seater taxi is a van or an 8-seater minibus. It takes up to eight passengers, with up to seven bags in the van (a Ford Tourneo or similar) and six to eight large suitcases in the minibus.
Do you have a 16-seater minibus?
Yes: a 16-seater minicoach, carrying 16 passengers with 14 bags. Price and availability are quoted on request, so email bookings@globalairporttaxi.com or message us on WhatsApp with the route, date and group size.
What does PAX mean in a vehicle name?
PAX means passengers. “Minibus 10 pax” is a minibus for ten passengers. We name classes by seats, such as 8-seater, 16-seater and 50-seater, and list the luggage space beside each one.
How many suitcases fit in a 7-seater taxi?
Up to seven bags in our executive MPV, but fewer large suitcases with every seat in use. Seats and boot are separate limits, so count your bags as well as your passengers, and move up a class if they are close.
Do you offer 30-seater and 50-seater coaches?
Yes, both. A 30-seater coach carries up to 30 passengers and a 50-seater coach up to 50. They suit conferences, schools, sports groups and large tours, and are quoted per journey by email or WhatsApp.
How do I book a minibus or coach?
Email or message us. Send the route, the date and time, the group size, the luggage and the flight number if you are flying, and we reply with a quote and the vehicle we recommend.
Which airports do you cover in the UK?
Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton, London City, Southend and Manchester have their own pages, and you can enter any UK airport, airport code or address on the booking page to see the vehicles and fixed fare for your route.
Does the fixed fare include the London Congestion Charge?
Your booking summary states it. The Congestion Charge and airport access fees can raise a total unless the confirmation says they are included, so check which road and airport charges are covered before you pay.
What do London airports charge for drop-off?
Headline drop-off charges are Heathrow £7, Gatwick £10, Stansted £10, Luton £7, London City £8 and Southend £8, as of our price guide reviewed 7 September 2026. Your booking summary states which charges your fare includes.
Which vehicle do I need for seven people to Heathrow?
An executive MPV for seven passengers with up to seven bags, or a van for eight. Tell us your luggage when you book; with a lot of cases the 8-seater minibus is safer. The fixed fare is shown before you pay.
Can one booking cover a large group with several vehicles?
Yes. Large groups can be split across several vehicles on one booking. Tell us the total group size, the luggage and the arrival times, and we coordinate the right mix of vehicles.
Are child seats and baby seats free?
Yes. Baby, toddler and booster seats are available on request at no extra cost in every class. Give each child’s age and weight when you book so we provide the correct seat type.
Can I bring a pushchair, golf clubs or skis?
Yes, tell us when you book. A folded pushchair counts as one large case. Golf clubs and ski bags need an estate or larger, so the right vehicle and boot space are confirmed in advance.
Is the fare per vehicle or per passenger?
Per vehicle. The fixed fare covers the whole car, MPV or van, whatever the number of passengers up to its capacity, so a bigger group often shares one fare.
What counts as non-standard luggage?
Skis, snowboards, bikes, golf clubs, instruments, pushchairs and wheelchairs. Tell us when you book so a vehicle with the right space is allocated; otherwise a larger vehicle may be needed on the day.
Do you offer wheelchair-accessible airport taxis?
Yes, on request. Tell us the type of wheelchair, the number of passengers and your luggage when you book, so we can confirm a suitable vehicle for your route and date.
Are luggage sizes the same worldwide?
We use one standard everywhere. A large suitcase is up to 75 × 50 × 38 cm and 23 kg (about 30 × 20 × 15 in and 50 lb), and a cabin bag up to 56 × 45 × 25 cm and 18 kg (about 22 × 18 × 10 in and 40 lb).
Are electric or hybrid vehicles available?
Yes, by availability. Hybrid and electric cars of saloon size are part of the fleet. You can add a preference in the booking notes, but a particular make or fuel type cannot be guaranteed.
Can I choose a specific car model?
No, you choose the class. Every vehicle is listed as “or similar”. We guarantee the class, the passenger capacity and the luggage space, and match you with the best available car.
Which vehicle is the cheapest?
The saloon, which is the lowest price tier. On the same route an estate typically costs about £10 more, an MPV about £20 more and an executive car about £40 more (indicative).
Is the fare fixed or metered?
Fixed, with no meter and no surge pricing. For vehicles booked online the fare appears before you pay and is locked in once you confirm. Minicoaches and coaches are quoted per journey and confirmed first.
Does the driver track my flight?
Yes. Give us your flight number and the pickup follows your actual landing time. Up to 60 minutes of free waiting after landing are included for standard airport arrivals, as stated in your booking terms.
Is meet and greet included in every class?
For airport arrivals, yes. Your driver waits at the arrivals meeting point with a name board and helps with the luggage. Your confirmation gives the exact meeting point.
Are all vehicles available worldwide?
The same classes are offered in many countries, but makes, models and availability vary by airport and day. Enter your airport on the booking page to see the vehicles available for your route.
How far ahead should I book a large vehicle?
Book standard journeys at least 24 to 48 hours ahead, and allow more time for minibuses, coaches, large groups, special luggage, school holidays and very early collections.
Can I get an invoice for a business booking?
Yes. An invoice is emailed after you book, and our support team can send another copy if you need one for expenses. Corporate teams can also book several vehicles together.
Are your drivers licensed?
Yes. Journeys are carried out by licensed drivers, and London journeys use TfL-licensed drivers with a PCO badge, DBS-checked. Global Airport Taxi is a booking platform, and your confirmation shows the driver and vehicle.
Can I cancel or change a booking?
You can cancel free up to 24 hours before pickup. Later cancellations and no-shows follow our terms. Changes to the time, flight or address go through our support team by phone, WhatsApp or email.
What if my group is bigger than the vehicle?
Choose the next class up or add a second vehicle. Tell us the group size and luggage when you book, and we confirm the right combination before you pay or travel.
