Playa de Muro is not a single drop-off point. It is a strip of coast about 5 km long, and the far end at Ses Casetes des Capellans is a good fifteen minutes past the first hotels. Our prices are per vehicle, not per person, with the guide metered fare alongside so you can see the gap for yourself.

How to read these figures. Metered ranges are guide figures collected in September 2026 and include the airport supplement. Since Decreto 20/2025 Mallorca runs a single island-wide reference tariff rather than the old four-way split, but it still switches to a higher rate at night, at weekends and on public holidays — which is where the top of each range comes from.
On a 60 km run like this one the fixed price usually wins outright, and it wins by a wide margin if your flight lands late. A rank taxi keeps charging while it sits in the Ma-13 queue on a July Saturday; a pre-booked fare does not move.
Which Playa de Muro are you actually going to?
This is the single most useful thing on the page, and the thing most booking forms get wrong. Playa de Muro is one continuous beach split into four named sectors, and they are not interchangeable. Put the wrong one on your booking and your driver drops you a 40-minute walk from your hotel, in the heat, with the cases.
The main hotel strip
Starts at the breakwater just past the Pont dels Anglesos and runs south. This is where most of the big four- and five-star properties sit, along with the widest range of beach services — loungers, parasols, lifeguards, watersports schools and accessible beach access.

Quieter, still serviced
Picks up where Sector I ends, near the s'Oberta canal that drains out of s'Albufera. Resort hotels still back onto the sand and the facilities are much the same, but the crowd thins noticeably. Good middle ground if you want the sea in front of you and fewer people on it.

Protected dunes, no facilities
Around 1.5 km of undeveloped sand backed by dunes, pines and juniper, and part of the s'Albufera protected area. There are no beach bars, no loungers and no toilets. You reach it on foot from either end along marked paths — cutting across the dunes damages them and is enforced.

The wooden cabins at the far end
A short stretch of beach at the Can Picafort end, named for the roughly 140 timber casetas built directly on the sand and handed down through Mallorcan families for generations. Several of the island's better beachfront rice and fish restaurants are here.

Playa de Muro is not in Alcúdia. The sand runs continuously round the Bay of Alcúdia, so people assume it is all one place. It is not: the Pont dels Anglesos — the "English bridge" on the Ma-12 — is the municipal boundary. North of it is Alcúdia; south of it is Muro.
That boundary is why a hotel advertised as "Alcúdia beach" can turn out to be in Muro, why the two areas have different parking rules and different local taxi licences, and why searching for "Alcúdia" weather or "Alcúdia" bus stops can return the wrong end of the bay. When you book, use your hotel's exact name and street rather than the resort name — we will find it either way, but it removes any chance of a wasted ten minutes on arrival.
Ways to get from Palma Airport to Playa de Muro
We sell transfers, so read this with healthy suspicion and check it against anything else you find. The short version: in summer, with light bags and a flexible afternoon, the A32 coach is decent value and we will not pretend otherwise. In November, or at 23:40 in August with two children and a pushchair, it is a completely different calculation.

Good value, but only half the year
The A32 is the one direct public link between PMI and Playa de Muro. It leaves from the stops directly opposite the Arrivals hall on Level 0 and runs the length of the bay to Can Picafort. It is seasonal, roughly from late March through October, and the last departure is in the evening rather than late at night.
Since March 2026 you can tap a contactless bank card on both TIB and EMT services, and the card fare is meaningfully cheaper than the cash single. One catch specific to TIB: you must tap off as well as on, or you will be charged for the full line.

Where the coach stops making sense
Bus fares are per person; taxi and transfer fares are per vehicle. At roughly €10 a head, two people pay about €20 against €110 by car — the coach wins clearly, and if you have one bag each and land at 11:00, take it.
At four people it is around €40 against €110 for a journey that is half an hour quicker and ends at your hotel door. At six, in a minivan at €135, it is about €22.50 a head against €60 on the coach. Add a late landing, a pushchair, or a hotel at the Capellans end and the car stops being a luxury purchase.

Free island transport is a residents' scheme. You will read that public transport in Mallorca is free. It is — for holders of a Targeta Intermodal or the Single Public Transport Card, both issued against proof of local registration. If you have just landed on holiday you are paying the standard cash or contactless fare, and the airport lines are excluded from the scheme in any case.
Palma Airport to Playa de Muro, step by step
It is a genuinely easy drive — most of it on a dual carriageway — but it crosses the island from the south coast to the north, and the last few kilometres are where the time goes.

Meet your driver on Level 0
Baggage reclaim, passport control and Arrivals all sit on Level 0. Your driver parks, comes inside and waits in the Arrivals hall holding a board with your name. There is no pick-up bay to find and no one to phone.

Out on the Ma-19, then onto the Ma-13
A short run west on the Ma-19 towards Palma, then north onto the Ma-13, the Palma–Alcúdia motorway. This is the fast section: roughly 40 km of dual carriageway past Marratxí, Binissalem and Inca, with the Tramuntana ridge rising on your left the whole way.

Through Sa Pobla and into the wetlands
The motorway ends near Sa Pobla and the landscape changes abruptly — flat market-garden country, irrigation channels, reed beds. You are on the edge of s'Albufera now, the largest wetland in the Balearics, which sits directly behind your beach.

The Ma-12 along the bay, and the bridge
The last stretch runs along the Bay of Alcúdia. Cross the Pont dels Anglesos and you are in Muro. In July and August this final few kilometres can add ten or fifteen minutes on its own — it is the one predictable pinch point on the route, and it is why we quote 50 to 60 minutes rather than the 43 minutes a mapping app will show you at 3am.
Realistic timings. Off-season, early morning: about 45 minutes. Most of the year: 50 to 55. A Saturday changeover afternoon in high summer, when every charter in Europe has landed and every hire car is heading north: budget 70. Your fixed price covers all three.
Arriving with a bike box
Playa de Muro is one of the most important cycling bases in Europe, and it is the start and finish of the Mallorca 312. That has two practical consequences for your transfer: the vehicle you book, and the week you book it in.
The Mallorca 312
Around 8,500 riders start and finish in Playa de Muro, on closed roads, choosing between 167 km, 225 km and the full 312 km on the day. Northern hotels sell out months ahead and entries typically go within hours of opening.

A bike box is not a suitcase
A hard case is typically around 130 × 80 × 30 cm and will not go in a standard saloon boot with four passengers' luggage. Two boxes need an estate; four need a minibus. Tell us the number of boxes when you book and we send the right car rather than the nearest one.

When the north fills up
Cycling season runs hard from late January to May and again in September and October, on top of the family summer peak. The Mallorca 312 fortnight in April is the tightest week of all — Palma Airport is noticeably busy on the Thursday before and the Monday after.

Event-day road closures work in both directions. If you are flying home on the Saturday of the 312, the coastal roads out of Muro and the routes through the Tramuntana are shut in rolling blocks from early morning. Child seats on a 60 km transfer
The rule people get wrong
Spanish law requires an approved restraint for children under 135 cm. There is a narrow exemption for taxis — but it applies to urban journeys, and a 60 km motorway run from PMI to Playa de Muro is not one. Rank taxis almost never carry a seat, and marshals will not hold the queue while one is found.
Pre-booked transfers can supply the right seat for each child if you say so at booking: infant carrier, forward-facing seat or booster. We do not charge for them.
Why Playa de Muro suits small children
The shelving here is famously gentle — you can walk a long way out before the water is above a child's waist, and the bay is protected enough that it stays calm on most days. Sectors I and II have lifeguards, toilets and accessible beach matting in season.
Practical detail for arrival day: many Muro hotels have a large all-inclusive footprint and a single arrivals entrance, so a door drop-off genuinely saves a walk with a pushchair and four cases.
If your flight is delayed, nothing happens. We track the inbound flight, so a two-hour delay simply moves the pick-up. Waiting time after landing is included — 60 minutes on international arrivals, 30 on domestic — which covers passport control and a slow carousel. Since the EU's biometric Entry/Exit System replaced passport stamping in April 2026, that buffer matters more than it used to; there is a fuller explanation on our Palma Airport taxi guide.
Getting back to the airport from Playa de Muro
The return leg catches people out more often than the arrival, for one reason that is not obvious: you cannot flag a taxi in Playa de Muro the way you can outside a terminal.
Local licences, and why they matter
Mallorca's taxi licences are municipal. Only Palma-licensed taxis may pick up at the airport rank, which is why the cab that drove you north cannot collect your friend from Arrivals on its way back. The same works in reverse: Playa de Muro is served by Muro and Alcúdia licences, and in low season there are not many of them sitting around waiting.
In practice, you either ask your hotel reception to call one the day before, or you pre-book.
How early to leave
Allow the full hour for the drive, then the airport itself. PMI in summer is a different building from PMI in February: check-in and security together can eat an hour, and the walk to a far gate in Module A or C adds another fifteen to twenty minutes.
Our rule of thumb from Playa de Muro: for a summer departure, leave four hours before the flight. For a winter one, three is comfortable. Book the transfer for the airport, not the gate.
Booking the return at the same time as the arrival is usually cheaper than two separate one-way transfers, and it means the outbound pick-up time is already set before you have unpacked.
What is within reach once you have arrived
The north of Mallorca is compact. Almost everything below is under half an hour from your hotel, and two of the best things are literally behind the beach.
s'Albufera Natural Park
The largest wetland in the Balearics and one of the finest birdwatching sites in the western Mediterranean, with more than 300 recorded species and thousands of overwintering waterfowl. Entry is free, but every visitor needs a permit from the Sa Roca reception centre, about a kilometre inside the gate at the Pont dels Anglesos.

Alcúdia old town
The only completely preserved medieval wall on Mallorca, a knot of narrow streets inside it, and the Roman town of Pollentia and its theatre just outside. The Tuesday and Sunday markets fill the streets around the gates.

Cap de Formentor
The cliff road out to the lighthouse at the island's northern tip, past the Mirador d'Es Colomer. It is spectacular and it is narrow, and access is restricted to shuttle buses and permitted vehicles during high season — check the current rules before setting off.

The nearest full-service harbour: boat trips round the bay, diving, the ferry to Ciutadella on Menorca, and the densest concentration of restaurants and bars in the north.

Lluc and the Tramuntana
The monastery at Lluc sits in the middle of the UNESCO-listed Serra de Tramuntana, up a road that climbs steadily out of the plain. It is also the point where most of the great Mallorcan cycling climbs converge.

The village the beach is named after, inland and largely unbothered by tourism. Worth an evening for the church square, the ethnological museum in an old manor house, and dinner at prices that are not beachfront prices.

How much is a taxi from Palma Airport to Playa de Muro?
A metered rank taxi typically costs €95–€125, depending on the time of day, the day of the week and which sector your hotel is in. The higher end reflects the night, weekend and public-holiday tariff plus the €4.65 airport supplement. Our pre-booked fixed price is €110 for up to four passengers, agreed at booking and unaffected by traffic or delays.
How long does the transfer take?
50 to 60 minutes for most of the year, over roughly 60 km. Early morning in the off-season it can be 45. On a summer Saturday afternoon, when the Ma-13 and the coastal Ma-12 are both busy with changeover traffic, allow 70. Drop-offs at Ses Casetes des Capellans or Can Picafort add another 10 to 15 minutes.
Is there a direct bus from Palma Airport to Playa de Muro?
Yes, in season. The AeroTIB A32 runs from the stops opposite Arrivals on Level 0 up the bay to Can Picafort, calling at Inca, Sa Pobla, Alcúdia, Port d'Alcúdia and Platja de Muro. It operates roughly late March to October and costs around €8–€12, less if you pay by contactless card. Journey time is about 75 to 100 minutes. Outside the season you take the A1 into Palma's Estació Intermodal and connect to a TIB line up the bay, which takes closer to two hours.
Which beach sector should I put on my booking?
Don't put a sector — put your hotel or apartment name and street address. Playa de Muro stretches about 5 km across four sectors, and the far end is a long walk from the first hotels. If you are in a private villa or a rental with no obvious name, give us the nearest cross street and any gate number.
Is Playa de Muro in Alcúdia?
No, although the beach runs continuously into Alcúdia's and many hotels market themselves using the Alcúdia name. The boundary is the Pont dels Anglesos on the Ma-12: north of the bridge is Alcúdia municipality, south of it is Muro. It matters for parking rules, local taxi licences, official beach information and, occasionally, for what your satnav does with a resort name.
Can I take a bike box in the transfer?
Yes, and we don't charge extra for it — you pay for the vehicle class. A hard bike case will not fit a standard saloon alongside four passengers' luggage, so tell us the number of boxes at booking and we allocate an estate or a minibus. During the Mallorca 312 fortnight in April, book as early as you can: demand for large vehicles into Playa de Muro that week is higher than at any other point in the year.
What happens if my flight is delayed?
Nothing you need to do. We track the inbound flight live, so a delay simply moves the pick-up time at no extra charge. Waiting time after landing is included — 60 minutes on international arrivals, 30 on domestic. If the flight is cancelled we move the transfer or refund it in full.
Do I need a child seat, and do you charge for one?
Spanish law requires an approved restraint for children under 135 cm. The taxi exemption people cite applies to urban journeys, which a 60 km motorway run from PMI is not. We supply infant carriers, forward-facing seats and boosters at no extra cost — just specify the children's ages and heights when you book. Rank taxis almost never carry one.
Where exactly do I meet the driver?
In the Arrivals hall on Level 0. PMI has a single passenger terminal, so there is no terminal number to get wrong. Your driver parks, comes inside and waits with a board showing your name. You do not need to call anyone or find a pick-up bay. Never accept a lift from someone who approaches you inside the baggage hall — licensed drivers do not tout for business there.
How do I get back to the airport at the end of my holiday?
Pre-book it, or ask your hotel to call a local taxi the day before. You cannot reliably flag one in the street: Mallorca's licences are municipal, Playa de Muro is served by Muro and Alcúdia licences, and there are not many idling in low season. Allow four hours before a summer flight and three before a winter one, counting the hour's drive.
Do Mallorca taxis charge extra for luggage?
No. The official tariff has no per-suitcase charge, and wheelchairs, pushchairs and guide dogs travel free. Older fare cards elsewhere in Spain do list a bag fee, so if you are charged for luggage, ask to see the tariff card — it must be displayed in the cab.
How far in advance should I book?
For ordinary dates, 24 to 48 hours is fine. For August, for a minibus, or for anything in the Mallorca 312 fortnight around 24 April 2027, book 7 to 10 days ahead at minimum — and ideally when you book the flight. Free cancellation up to 24 hours means booking early costs you nothing if plans change.
Is it worth visiting s'Albufera, and can I get there without a car?
Easily — it is the closest thing Playa de Muro has to a second attraction, and from Sectors I and II you can walk or cycle to the entrance at the Pont dels Anglesos. Entry is free but you need a permit from the Sa Roca reception centre about a kilometre inside, and reception closes at 16:00 year-round even though the park itself stays open later. Cars are not allowed past the car park. Bring water and, in spring and summer, insect repellent.
Do I tip the driver?
It is not expected and no driver will think less of you for skipping it. Most people round up a euro or two if the service was good or the driver handled a lot of luggage. There is no service charge on the official tariff.
