Short answer
A metered rank taxi from Valencia Airport to the city centre normally works out around €20–€25 in the daytime and closer to €28–€35 at night, on Sundays and on public holidays.

If you pre‑booked with us
Valencia Airport has a single terminal building, and every arriving passenger comes out through the same Arrivals hall on the ground floor. Once you've collected your bags and walked through the exit doors, your driver will be standing directly in front of you holding a board with your name and our logo.
There is no complicated meeting point, no separate car park to walk to, and no shuttle. The whole distance from baggage carousel to car is a few minutes' walk. If your phone is on, you'll also get the driver's mobile number by SMS.

Message the driver. Waiting time beyond the free hour is charged in small increments, not full hours.

Avoid unlicensed touts
If anyone approaches you inside the terminal offering a ride, decline politely. Legitimate transfer drivers hold a name board and wait; they don't solicit passengers. Licensed Valencian taxis are white with a diagonal stripe, carry a roof light and a licence number, and always run a meter or a pre‑agreed written booking.

When the metro genuinely wins
Lines 3 and 5 both run from the station at the airport into the middle of town in around 25 minutes, and they're immune to traffic. If you're one or two people with a cabin bag, staying near Xàtiva, Colón or Ángel Guimerà, the metro is excellent value. Note that an airport supplement is built into the fare automatically.
When the metro doesn't
Escalators, a card machine, a platform, a transfer and then a walk with cases on cobbled streets is a different experience from a car that stops at your door. Add a toddler, a pushchair, a surfboard or a 1 am landing and the maths changes completely.
Where rideshare falls down
App pricing at VLC is dynamic. It can undercut a taxi at 11 am on a Tuesday and cost noticeably more during Fallas, a Valencia CF home fixture or a big trade fair at Feria Valencia. A pre-booked fixed price is the only option that doesn't move.
How long does immigration take at Valencia Airport?
Short answer: if you're arriving on a flight from another Schengen country — the large majority of flights into VLC — there is no passport control at all and you'll be at your bags in 10–20 minutes. If you're arriving from outside the Schengen Area, budget 20–45 minutes at passport control off-peak, and considerably longer at busy times, because the EU's biometric Entry/Exit System now applies to all non-EU passport holders.
What the Entry / Exit System changed
The EU's Entry/Exit System (EES) began a phased rollout on 12 October 2025 and became fully operational across Schengen external borders on 10 April 2026. It replaces passport stamping with a digital record: non-EU travellers give a facial image and fingerprints at a kiosk or desk, and the system automatically tracks how much of the 90-days-in-180 allowance has been used. Children under 12 are exempt from fingerprinting.
The registration is a one-off. Your first entry after the rollout takes the longest; subsequent trips are much faster because your biometrics are already on file. The rollout has been bumpy across Europe, with queues of two hours or more reported at several large hubs during peak periods, and airport and airline bodies pressing the European Commission for flexibility. Spanish airports have been affected, with the heaviest reported queues at the biggest leisure hubs.
Why Valencia usually fares better than Alicante or Málaga
VLC is a mid-sized airport with a single terminal and a passenger mix weighted heavily toward Schengen routes. Fewer non-Schengen arrivals means fewer people funnelled into EES processing at once. That doesn't make it immune — a UK or Moroccan arrival landing at the same time as two other non-Schengen flights will still queue — but Valencia rarely produces the multi-hour scenes seen at the largest holiday airports.

Practical tips that actually shorten the queue
Have your passport ready
Keep your passport out of its cover and your return or onward ticket accessible — EES officers may ask for proof of onward travel and accommodation.
Use the e‑gates if you can
If you hold an EU, EEA or Swiss passport, use the automated e-gates; they are almost always the shortest line.
Keep families together
Families with under-12s should stay together — the children skip fingerprinting, which speeds the group up.
Don't book tight connections
Don't book a flight onward connection out of Valencia on the same day as a non-Schengen arrival.
Book a transfer rather than relying on the rank
If EES holds you for an hour, we're still there; a rank queue at 1 am may not be.
EES and ETIAS rules are still being adjusted. Check the European Commission's official travel pages and your airline shortly before you fly.
What passengers are allowed to bring inside Valencia Airport
Valencia follows standard EU aviation security rules, plus Spanish and EU customs law on what you can bring into the country. Here's the version that actually matters at the checkpoint.
Hand baggage — allowed
- Liquids in containers of 100 ml or less, together in one transparent resealable bag of about one litre.
- Baby milk, formula, baby food and sterilised water — declare them, exempt from the 100 ml limit.
- Prescription medication above 100 ml, with a prescription or doctor's letter.
- Laptops, tablets, cameras — usually out of the bag in a separate tray unless a modern 3D scanner is in use.
- Power banks and spare lithium batteries — cabin only, terminals taped or in original packaging.
- E-cigarettes and vapes — cabin only, never in hold luggage. No charging or using them airside.
- Duty-free liquids bought airside, sealed in a tamper‑evident bag with the receipt visible.
- Solid food — sandwiches, fruit, crisps, sealed snacks.
- Umbrellas, walking sticks, folded pushchairs and wheelchairs (gate-checked free).
Hand baggage — not allowed
- Knives, blades, scissors over roughly 6 cm, razor blades, box cutters and multi‑tools.
- Sporting bats, clubs, poles, darts and martial‑arts equipment — hold only.
- Toy or replica firearms, including realistic‑looking novelty items.
- Flammable liquids, lighter fuel, paint, bleach and camping gas.
- Fireworks, flares and party poppers, in cabin or hold.
- Damaged, recalled or unmarked lithium batteries.
- Full‑size aerosols, unopened wine over 100 ml, or that jar of local honey bought before security.

Bringing food and goods into Spain
From the EU: food freely for personal use — the jamón is fine.
From outside the EU: meat, milk and products containing them are prohibited, with narrow exemptions for infant formula and certain medical foods. Fruit, vegetables, plants and seeds are restricted.
Cash: €10,000 or more must be declared.
Duty-free allowances: 200 cigarettes, 1 litre spirits or 2 litres fortified wine, 4 litres still wine, 16 litres beer, up to €430 of other goods. Exceed them and you pay duty at the red channel.

Smoking and vaping
Banned inside the terminal. There is a designated open‑air smoking terrace past security in Departures.
Pets
Small animals may travel in cabin with most carriers — EU pet passport and microchip required. Check the airline first; rules differ sharply.
Left luggage
Valencia Airport has historically had no left‑luggage office or lockers. Use a city‑centre storage service or ask your hotel to hold bags.
Drones and e‑scooters
Drones: hold with batteries removed and carried in cabin. Most airlines refuse e‑scooters and hoverboards entirely due to battery restrictions.

Where the airport sits
Valencia Airport is in Manises, about 8 km west of the city, reached from the CV-30 and A-3. That places it a short hop from central Valencia, and on the right side of town for Paterna, Torrent, Riba-roja and Feria Valencia.
Heading south to Gandia, Dénia, Calpe or Benidorm you'll join the AP‑7 / A‑7 down the coast — a fast, scenic run past orange groves and the Sierra de Bèrnia. Northbound for Sagunto, Castellón and Peñiscola the same motorway corridor runs up the Costa del Azahar.

Most arrivals into Valencia come from other Schengen countries, so most people walk straight from the aircraft to baggage reclaim without meeting a border officer at all. Non-Schengen arrivals — chiefly the UK, Morocco and Türkiye — go through passport control and the EES process.

Is Valencia Airport an expensive airport?
Short answer: no.
By Spanish and wider European standards Valencia is one of the cheaper airports to fly into and out of, and one of the cheapest to leave. The short 8 km run to the city centre keeps every transport option affordable, and the terminal itself is not a captive-audience airport where the only coffee costs €6.

Spanish law requires approved restraints for children under 135 cm. Infant carriers, child seats and booster cushions are provided free — tell us your children's ages and heights when booking and they'll be fitted before you land.

Valencia Airport metro and bus, explained properly
Metrovalencia
Lines 3 and 5The airport has its own station, Aeroport, on Metrovalencia lines 3 and 5. Line 3 runs north–south through the middle of the city; line 5 runs across town toward the port and beaches. Both reach the central stations in roughly 25 minutes.
Useful stops
Expect to pay roughly €4.80 for a single, plus about €1 for the reusable travel card the first time. An airport supplement is added automatically to any journey starting at the airport station — this catches people out.
Metrobus
Line 150Line 150 stops directly outside Arrivals on floor 0 and runs into the city through Manises, Quart de Poblet and Mislata before reaching Àngel Guimerà, the Mercat Central area on Avenida del Oeste, and Avenida Ramón y Cajal.
Does not run on Sundays or public holidays — a genuinely common trap for weekend arrivals. Check the current timetable and fare before relying on it.
Which should you take?
One or two people, light bags, daytime, city‑centre hotel: metro. Everyone else — families, groups, late‑night landings, Sunday arrivals, hotels away from a metro stop, or anyone who has already had a long flight — is better off in a car.
