Quick answers

Nine quick answers about taxis at Stansted

The nine things people ask us most before a Stansted trip. Each answer is short; the sections after it go deeper.

How many terminals does Stansted have?

One main terminal. Some gates are in satellite buildings, but every flight uses the same check-in and the same Arrivals hall, so there is no terminal to choose. Bassingbourn Road, Stansted CM24 1QW.

How much is a taxi from Stansted to central London?

Our guide price starts from £116 for a saloon to central London (EC and WC), fixed per vehicle when you book. Allow 60–90 minutes by road. The train is cheaper for one or two people with light bags. Guide prices: fares can change, and the exact fare is shown on the booking page before you pay.

Is Stansted Airport in London?

No: it is in Essex, about 38 miles north-east of central London. That is why the fare to the centre is a long-distance fare, higher than from a London airport.

Where will my driver be standing?

Standing in the Arrivals hall behind a board with your name on it. After that it is a short walk to the car; the confirmation email gives the spot and the driver’s mobile number.

How long is the Stansted Express journey?

About 47 minutes to London Liverpool Street, with a train roughly every 15 minutes; Tottenham Hale and Stratford are on the way for many services. Greater Anglia publishes the current times and fares.

What is the Stansted drop-off charge?

£10 for up to 15 minutes and £28 for up to 30 minutes, 30 minutes maximum, as reported for 2026. Staying longer brings a £100 charge notice (£60 if paid within 14 days). The Mid Stay car park has a free set-down option with a shuttle bus.

Can I simply use the taxi rank?

Yes. Licensed cabs queue at a rank outside the main terminal and charge by the meter. We are a separate, pre-booking service: our driver is already inside Arrivals when you walk out.

Is a pre-booked transfer better than a black cab?

The difference is certainty. A black cab runs on the meter, so the traffic sets the fare. A transfer has its fare shown before you pay, for the whole vehicle, and the driver is already waiting.

What if my plane lands late, or somewhere else?

A late landing needs nothing from you: we watch your flight number and shift the pickup to the real landing time. If the plane is sent to another airport, get in touch with us as soon as you hear.

Our vehicles

Which vehicle for your Stansted transfer?

Nine vehicles, from a saloon for two to a 50-seater coach. Fares are per vehicle, so how many bags you carry matters as much as how many people travel.

What to know about child seats, sports equipment and accessible vehicles
ExtraWhat to know
Child seatsInfant, child and booster seats are supplied free when you ask. UK rules require a child seat until a child is 12 or 135 cm tall, with narrow exemptions for taxis and private hire vehicles, so please put the children’s ages in your booking.
Golf clubs, skis, bicyclesAccepted with notice. State the item and its length when you book, so a vehicle with enough load space is assigned.
Wheelchair-accessible vehiclesRequest it at booking and we will check that a suitable vehicle is available for your route and date.

Every vehicle is shown on our fleet page. The models shown are typical for each class, and your quote confirms what is on offer. Give us the size of your party and your bag count so the right vehicle is sent.

Very reliable and easy to get a hold of. I was very confused leaving the airport - user error haha - and they were super helpful. My flight was also delayed and the guy who picked me up was on top of it.

I would totally recommend Global Airport Taxi to anyone needing a taxi service for their airport commute. I decided on way to the airport that I was flying out of that I will need a cab service at LHR. They were quick to respond to and accommodated some of my last minute schedule change requests after I had landed at LHR. Totally reliable and willing to be flexible. Outstanding customer support provided by Jennifer and Root. Keep it up guys !!

Pick-up and drop-off

Meeting and dropping off at Stansted: where to stand, where the car stops

One terminal makes Stansted easy to find your way around, but the pickup spot still depends on the day. This section shows how arrivals, departures and the airport’s charges fit together.

Where our driver meets you at Stansted Airport, where the car waits, where we drop you, what the drop-off costs and the free alternative
At the airportWhat to know
TerminalsA single main terminal, so you never have to choose between terminals for arrivals or departures.
Our driver (arrivals)In the Arrivals hall with a name board, already aware of your landing time.
Where the car waitsYour driver walks you to the car. The exact location is in your confirmation, because airport works can move it.
Where we drop you (departures)At the terminal drop-off area, following the airport’s rules. The driver helps with the bags first.
The drop-off charge£10 for up to 15 minutes, £28 up to 30 minutes, 30 minutes maximum (reported for 2026: check the airport’s site).
The free optionMid Stay car park: a free set-down period (reported as one hour), then a free shuttle bus to the terminal, about every 10 minutes and about 7 minutes’ ride.
AssistanceIf you need help in the terminal, book Assisted Travel with your airline or the airport and tell us, so the meeting point is agreed in advance.
Taxi rankOutside the main terminal, licensed taxis on the meter.
RailThe Stansted Express station is a short walk from Arrivals (reported as about 2 minutes).

Arrivals: the name board

Expect to see your surname on a board as you come through into the Arrivals hall. The driver has followed your flight, and the confirmation email carries a mobile number, so a text from the baggage hall is enough if you are held up.

The walk to the car

The driver carries the bags to the car and you do not have to find a stand yourself. Where the car waits depends on the airport’s layout on the day, so treat your confirmation as the final word on the spot.

Departures: the drop-off

We stop at the terminal drop-off area, help with the bags and you walk in. The charge is reported at £10 for up to 15 minutes and £28 up to 30 minutes, so keep the goodbyes short.

The free alternative

The Mid Stay car park has been reported to offer a free set-down period, with a free shuttle bus to the terminal. Add 15–25 minutes to the journey. It suits a friend who drops you, not a car with a fixed time to keep. Terms change: check the airport’s page.

Assisted Travel

Help in the terminal for passengers with reduced mobility is booked through the airline or the airport. Tell us at booking, and we agree the meeting point so nobody has a long walk.

Why the pick-up is a short walk

Airports control where private cars may stop, and Stansted charges for time spent at the terminal. That is why your driver meets you in Arrivals and walks you out, rather than circling the forecourt.

The layout keeps changing

Stansted has plans to grow to 51 million passengers a year, approved in December 2025, so building work and changes to roads and car parks are likely. Follow the signs and the driver’s message.

One main terminal makes it simple

With one terminal there is no Terminal 2 or North and South to mix up, as there is at Heathrow or Gatwick. Give us your flight number all the same: it lets us move the pickup when the plane lands early or late.

Layout and charges are the airport’s to change, so look at its website in the week you travel.

Stansted Airport to central London

About 38 miles, 60–90 minutes by road. Our guide price for a saloon: from £116 to Central London (EC and WC), fixed when you book. By train: the Stansted Express in about 47 minutes to Liverpool Street. Best for: hotels, apartments and meetings, a family with luggage or a late landing. Stansted to central London taxi.

Stansted Airport to Colchester, Southend-on-Sea and Ely

Guide prices for a saloon: Colchester £105, Southend-on-Sea £109 and Ely £122. A car is often simpler than a train with a change.

Stansted Airport to Watford and Milton Keynes

Guide prices for a saloon: Watford £128 and Milton Keynes £167. Public transport needs changes. Best for: Watford Junction, the Leavesden studios and Stadium MK. Stansted to Watford taxi.

Stansted Airport to Heathrow

About 65 miles, around 71 minutes. from £167 for a saloon. Public options are a coach or a train via London. Best for: a connecting flight, when a fixed fare and a driver who waits matter. Heathrow Airport taxi

Stansted Airport to London City

About 34 miles, around 47 minutes. from £99 for a saloon. Best for: business flights with a tight check-in. London City Airport taxi

Stansted Airport to Oxford

from £205 for a saloon. Public transport takes a change in London and 2 hours or more. Best for: the colleges, the hospitals and the Cotswolds. Stansted to Oxford taxi.

Distances are driving miles and times are typical figures from our booking system, longer at rush hour: the airport publishes no taxi times. Our price is a guide price for a saloon, fixed when you book.

Inside London

Where we drop you in London: King’s Cross, Liverpool Street, Canary Wharf and the West End

Central London is a long way from Stansted, about 38 miles, and the right place to stop depends on the station or the hotel. These are the common ones, so you can tell the driver exactly where.

King’s Cross and St Pancras

Guide prices for a saloon: King’s Cross from £81 and St Pancras International from £111. The Eurostar leaves from St Pancras, so work back from your check-in deadline and take the earlier pickup. Stansted to King’s Cross taxi.

Liverpool Street, Moorgate and the City

Liverpool Street is where the Stansted Express arrives, so the train is the obvious rival. A car is for luggage, a late landing or an address that is not at the station. Liverpool Street from £100, Moorgate £108, Bank and Monument £115, Fenchurch Street £113. Stansted to Liverpool Street taxi.

Euston, Paddington and Victoria

Guide prices for a saloon: Euston £84, Victoria £84 and Paddington £92. By train each is a change from the Stansted Express, which is the part a suitcase makes hard. Stansted to Euston taxi.

Stratford, Canary Wharf and Greenwich

Stratford (from £81) is on the Stansted Express line, so the train is a real alternative there. Canary Wharf is £113 and Greenwich £110, where the car stops at the door. Stansted to Canary Wharf taxi.

The West End and Westminster

Hotels, theatres and shops: Oxford Circus from £110 (about 41 miles, around 75 minutes), Westminster £118 and Green Park £118. Stansted to Oxford Circus taxi.

Wembley, Richmond and outer London

Guide prices for a saloon: Wembley £121, Harrow £124, Ealing £124, Richmond £131 and Croydon £150. Match and concert days slow the roads: plan an hour more. Stansted to Wembley taxi.

Charges inside London

The Congestion Charge zone is in central London; Stansted lies outside it. The Ultra Low Emission Zone applies across every London borough, and the Dartford Crossing charge is charged on some routes to Kent. Any charge that applies to your journey is listed in the booking summary, before you pay.

Two nearby addresses can have different guide prices, so type your exact address on the booking page to see the fare for it.

Guide prices only. Fares can change with the date, the time and the vehicle, so the exact fare is shown on the booking page before you pay. Once you confirm, that fare is your fare.

Near the airport

Taxi to Stansted Airport from Bishop’s Stortford, Saffron Walden, Harlow and nearby towns

Most people who live near Stansted book a short journey, often at night or before dawn. Here is how the nearby places work, and what to expect before you book.

Bishop’s Stortford

The nearest large town, about 5 miles from the terminal and usually 10 to 15 minutes by road. It has its own station, so a taxi is for early flights, late arrivals and anyone with luggage or children. Type the address on the booking page to see the fare.

Takeley, Great Dunmow and Thaxted

Takeley is a couple of miles from the airport and Great Dunmow about 8 miles, around 15 to 20 minutes. Bus services are limited in the early hours, so a booked car is the dependable way to a 06:00 flight.

Saffron Walden and the villages around it

About 11 miles and 20 to 25 minutes. There is no station in Saffron Walden, so a car for the whole journey saves changing between bus and train.

Harlow and Sawbridgeworth

Harlow is about 12 miles away, 20 to 25 minutes in normal traffic. Harlow Town and Harlow Mill stations are on the Cambridge line, but the Stansted Express does not stop there, so with bags a car is the simpler journey.

Epping, Loughton and the M11 corridor

About 18 to 20 miles via the M11, 30 to 40 minutes. For the Central line at Epping or Loughton, the car goes straight to your door instead of through central London.

Tottenham Hale and north London

Tottenham Hale is the first London stop on the Stansted Express line and about 30 miles from the airport by road. With large bags, a car from here avoids the change at Liverpool Street.

Distances are approximate road-map figures and times are for normal traffic. Short local fares depend on your exact address and the time, so the booking page shows the fare for your address before you pay.

Guide prices only. Fares can change with the date, the time and the vehicle, so the exact fare is shown on the booking page before you pay. Once you confirm, that fare is your fare.

Airport to airport

Stansted to Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton, London City and Southend

Moving between airports means a hard deadline and bags that have to come with you. These are the Stansted runs we are asked about most, each with a fare agreed in advance.

Heathrow Airport

About 65 miles, around 71 minutes. from £167 for a saloon. Tell us the Heathrow terminal (2, 3, 4 or 5) and your check-in or connection deadline, and we plan the pickup back from it. Heathrow Airport taxi

Gatwick Airport

About 71 miles, around 77 minutes. from £177 for a saloon. Tell us the Gatwick terminal (North or South). Best for: a connecting flight, when traffic around the M25 is the unknown. Gatwick Airport taxi

Luton Airport

Around 71 minutes. from £123 for a saloon. For Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire and the budget flights, door to door without a change in London. Luton Airport taxi

London City Airport

About 34 miles, around 47 minutes. from £99 for a saloon. Best for: business flights with a tight check-in. London City Airport taxi

Southend Airport

About 39 miles, around 59 minutes. from £125 for a saloon. Southend-on-Sea town centre is £109. Southend Airport taxi

Longer journeys

Beyond London: Oxford, Birmingham and the north

Not every Stansted trip ends in London. These longer runs are booked the same way and priced in the same table, whatever the destination.

Oxford and the Cotswolds

Oxford £205 and The Cotswolds £249 for a saloon. The colleges, the hospitals and the gateway to the Cotswolds, without a change in London. Stansted to Oxford taxi.

Brighton and the south coast

Brighton £204, Portsmouth £253 and Southampton £249. Door to door, around the M25, with luggage. Stansted to Brighton taxi.

Kent

Maidstone £149, Canterbury £179 and Dover £210. Some routes cross the Dartford Crossing, whose charge your booking summary lists where it applies.

Leicester, Nottingham and Derby

Leicester £203, Nottingham £237 and Derby £266. The universities and the East Midlands, in a single car. Stansted to Leicester taxi.

Birmingham and the West Midlands

Birmingham £250, Coventry £223 and Wolverhampton £281. The NEC, the city centre and the Midlands. Stansted to Birmingham taxi.

Bristol, Bath and the west

Bristol £310, Bath £305 and Exeter £435. On a drive this long a break is sensible, and we confirm the plan with you before you travel.

Leeds, York, Manchester and the north

Leeds £336, York £349 and Manchester £382. Door to door for a family or a team with luggage. Stansted to Manchester taxi.

Newcastle, the Lakes and the far north

Newcastle £466, the Lake District £482 and Carlisle £509. The longest journeys we price, planned in advance.

Stansted has a taxi rank, camera-enforced drop-off charges that most guides leave out, and a free alternative. Here is what each one means for your fare.

Terminal drop-off£10For up to 15 minutes (reported for 2026).
Up to 30 minutes£28The maximum stay is 30 minutes; pay by 23:59 the next day.
Charge notice£100The charge falls to £60 when paid within 14 days.
Mid Stay set-downFreeA free period (reported as one hour), with a free shuttle bus.

The taxi rank

Licensed taxis wait at a rank outside the main terminal. The fare is on the meter, so for a journey of 60 to 90 minutes the traffic decides the final figure. Check the airport’s website for how the rank is run and which payment methods the cabs take.

Private hire and the drop-off charge

Pre-booked private hire pays the same terminal drop-off charge as every other vehicle. The airport reads number plates with cameras, so there is no barrier and no ticket: the operator pays online. We are an independent pre-booking service: your booking summary shows any airport charge that applies, and your driver is waiting with your name.

Which figure is current

An earlier tariff of £7 for up to 15 minutes was replaced by the figures above in March 2026. The airport sets and changes the charge, so check the airport’s website before you travel.

Dropping off or collecting someone at Stansted: the charges

Reported charges for dropping off and collecting a passenger at Stansted: the terminal drop-off, the Mid Stay set-down, the Short Stay car park and the taxi rank
WhereShortest stayLonger stays
Terminal drop-off (Express Set Down)£10 for up to 15 minutes£28 up to 30 minutes; 30 minutes maximum; over that, a £100 charge notice (£60 within 14 days)
Mid Stay free set-downA free period (reported as one hour)A charge of about £5 is reported after the free period; the shuttle bus itself is free, about every 10 minutes and about 7 minutes to the terminal
Short Stay car park (collecting a passenger)About £13 for up to 30 minutesAbout £21 for 1 hour and £25 for 2 hours (the airport does not publish these)

A friend or an operator pays this to meet you, which is why the front of the terminal is not a place to wait.

Who flies to Stansted, and when the arrivals hall is busiest

Stansted is a leisure and low-cost airport with a single main terminal. This is the traffic that decides your arrival.

Who flies in

Stansted is a low-cost and leisure airport. Ryanair is by far the largest airline, with easyJet, Jet2, TUI, Wizz Air, Pegasus, AJet, Turkish Airlines, Emirates, British Airways CityFlyer and Loganair among the others, flying to Europe, the Mediterranean, Turkey and beyond. Airlines change their routes every season, so check your own booking. Arrivals come in waves, early in the morning and in the evening.

If this is your first visit

Despite the name on the ticket, Stansted is out in Essex, roughly 38 miles from the centre of London, so a car ride into town is a long one and the Stansted Express is the obvious rival. International arrivals pass through UK border control, and anyone who needs an ETA has to hold it before departure; the border section below explains how that works.

A delayed flight needs no action from you, because we follow it and move the pickup. If it is sent to a different airport, ring the number on your confirmation straight away.

Arriving

Landing at Stansted: the route from the gate to your car

This is the sequence from touchdown to the back seat, plus how the rank works if you turn up without a booking.

  1. Off the aircraftThe walk from the gate to the arrivals area takes a few minutes, and more if you are at a satellite gate or the aircraft parks on a remote stand and a bus takes you to the terminal.
  2. Border control, on international flightsE-gates are for eligible passengers with a biometric passport; everyone else queues at a Border Force desk. Anyone who needs an ETA must hold it before flying. Flights from within the UK have no passport check.
  3. Baggage reclaimThe flight information screens show which belt your flight uses. Bags arrive more slowly at peak times, which is why the free waiting period starts at landing, not when you come out.
  4. Meet your driverThe driver stands in the Arrivals hall holding a board with your name, having followed your flight in. The meeting spot and a mobile number are in your confirmation email.
  5. Walk to the carYour driver carries the bags to the car and drives you door to door. The exact location of the car is in your confirmation, because airport works can move it. If you paid online, there is nothing to settle in the car.

If you have not pre-booked

Licensed taxis wait at the rank outside the main terminal and run on the meter. Ride-hailing cars follow the airport’s rules for private vehicles, and the drop-off and pick-up charges apply to them like any other car.

Recognise a licensed driver

Licensed cabs and private hire cars display a plate issued by their licensing authority, and a private hire driver should be able to show a booking made in your name. If anything seems off, ask to see the booking details before you step in.

Unofficial offers in the hall

Private hire drivers in England can only take passengers who have booked in advance. A stranger who offers you a ride inside the terminal should be turned down; your driver is holding your name, and the licensed rank is outside.

For the general picture, read our airport meet and greet guide.

Border checks

Entering the UK at Stansted: queues, e-gates and the ETA

UK entry rules have shifted in recent years, and the queue at passport control is the least predictable minute of your arrival. Here is what applies to you and how it affects the pickup.

Border control at Stansted Airport by type of flight and passport: where you go and what to expect
Your flightBorder controlWhat to expect
Flying in from elsewhere in the UKNo passport checkStraight to baggage reclaim, then Arrivals
Overseas flight, British or Irish passport holderE-gates or a manned deskNo ETA is required; busy periods mean a longer queue
International flight, visitor who needs an ETAE-gates if you qualify, otherwise a deskGet the ETA before you travel; it costs £20 and is tied to your passport
A child travelling with an adultE-gates only if the child meets the age and passport rulesA younger child goes to a manned desk with the adult; GOV.UK has the present age limit
A passport the e-gates do not acceptA Border Force desk with an officerExpect longer waits in the early-morning and evening peaks

The ETA

Visitors who are neither British nor Irish need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) or an eVisa before they fly, and that includes babies and children. The ETA is tied to your passport and costs £20. UK citizens, Irish citizens and people with UK immigration status do not need one. Apply on the GOV.UK ETA page or in the official UK ETA app, and check your own nationality there.

The e-gates

The e-gates are open to eligible passengers with a biometric passport, and children aged 10 and over have been allowed to use them; everyone else sees a Border Force officer at a desk. Who qualifies has been altered before and may be again, so read the current rule on GOV.UK before travelling. If a child has a different surname from the adult, officers may ask how you are related: carry a birth certificate or a letter of permission, and keep together.

Rules can change at short notice, so read the GOV.UK ETA page and ask your airline before you fly.

Flying out

Taxi to Stansted Airport: from your front door to check-in

The sections above lean towards arrivals. If you are flying out of Stansted, this is how the trip to the terminal works and how to choose a collection time.

  1. Book the pickupPut your home, hotel or other address in as the start and Stansted Airport as the destination, with your flight time. The fare is displayed before you pay, and the return leg can be booked now or added later.
  2. Choose the pickup timeCount back from your airline’s check-in or bag-drop cut-off, add the drive time, then leave a margin for traffic. The usual advice is two hours at the airport before a short-haul flight and three before long-haul; your booking shows the airline’s own deadline.
  3. Meet the driverThe driver arrives at the agreed time; the confirmation email names the vehicle and gives a mobile number.
  4. Drop-off at the terminalThe driver stops at the terminal drop-off area and helps with the bags; you walk in to check-in. Stansted charges £10 for up to 15 minutes and £28 up to 30 minutes, so keep the goodbyes short. Stansted has one main terminal, so there is nothing to choose.

The pick-up time guide

Our rule for a short-haul flight is the drive time, plus two hours at the airport, plus a 30-minute margin, rounded up to the next 15 minutes. Add an hour for a long-haul flight, and more in the school holidays. The table above applies it to the usual starting points.

Early flights

A lot of Stansted’s flights depart at dawn. The early and late flights section above covers pickups in the small hours, and our cars run around the clock.

One main terminal, many gates

Stansted has a single main terminal for check-in, but some gates are in satellite buildings reached after security, which can add minutes. Allow for the queue at bag-drop and security on busy mornings, and for the walk to your gate.

The drop-off charge

The terminal drop-off is reported at £10 for up to 15 minutes and £28 up to 30 minutes, with a £100 charge notice if you overstay (£60 within 14 days). Your booking summary shows any charge that applies to your journey, and the free Mid Stay set-down is an option if you are early.

Each airline sets its own check-in and bag-drop cut-offs. Drive times are typical figures from our booking system, and the pickup times are suggestions rather than guarantees.

Early and late

Early flights and late landings at Stansted: what runs, and what does not

Flights keep Stansted busy at odd hours, but the trains, coaches and shuttles around it do not all follow. This is how the night options compare, and what they mean for your pickup.

Early departures

Many Stansted flights leave early in the morning. Our guide is the drive time, plus two hours at the airport, plus 30 minutes, rounded up to 15 minutes: the table in the departures section works it out for the usual routes. We operate 24 hours a day.

Late landings

Send us the flight number and we track the plane, moving the pickup to its actual landing time; the 60 minutes of waiting starts at touchdown. A landing past midnight is routine for us.

Public transport at night

A car runs whenever you land, which trains and coaches cannot promise, so look up the first and last train for your date with Greater Anglia and the coach timetable. With a very early flight, children or heavy bags, a pre-booked car is the simplest plan.

Timetables shift, so confirm the first and last train with the operator.

Rail, coach and apps

Stansted Airport by train and coach

Stansted has a station beside the terminal and a busy coach station. This is how each option works.

Rail, in a few lines

Stansted’s station is beside the terminal, so there is no shuttle to change to. Greater Anglia runs the Stansted Express to Liverpool Street, and other trains serve Cambridge and the east. Check the operator for the timetable, the first and last train and the fare on your day.

Where public transport stops helping

A train ends at a station, not at your hotel or village. With bags, children, a dawn flight or an address far from the line, a waiting car is the simpler plan.

Fares and frequencies change: check the operators’ timetables before you travel.

Compared

Every way from Stansted Airport to your hotel, compared

We sell transfers, so weigh our view against other sources. When the train or the coach is the better choice, the table says so.

Four things outweigh the sticker price

The first is the number of people, because a vehicle carries the whole group for one fare: at £116 to central London that is about £39 each for three people, still more than the train, so on price alone the Stansted Express wins. The second is the luggage. The third is the time of arrival. The fourth is how much a surprise would cost you on a tight schedule.

The calendar

Calendar dates that make getting to Stansted harder

Stansted’s traffic follows a yearly rhythm. On these dates the M11, the M25 and the railway can all run slower than normal, so it is wise to book the transfer as soon as the flight is booked.

Beyond the airport run

Beyond the standard run: cruise ports, jets and groups at Stansted

Stansted is a gateway for cruise passengers, private aircraft and business travellers as well as holidaymakers.

Cruise passengers

Plenty of cruise passengers fly into Stansted from Europe and head for the ship. Cruise lines give each guest a boarding window, so tell us yours and we plan the pickup, and a vehicle for large cases, around it.

Private jets and business aviation

Private and business jets are dealt with by their own handlers, not at the passenger terminal. Give us the handler’s name and the aircraft registration at booking, and we meet you at the handler.

Groups and business travel

Wedding parties, teams and tour groups fit a 16-seater minibus, a 30-seater or a 50-seater coach booked well ahead. If your company books regularly, ask about a business account; invoicing and reporting are agreed with our team when it is set up.

Long waits and extra stops

Extra stops and waiting beyond the included time are quoted on request. Tell us about them at booking, so the fare you confirm is the fare you pay.

Special requirements

Special requirements: children, wheelchairs, pets and large luggage

Most needs are handled at no extra charge when you tell us at booking. These are the four we are asked about most.

Baby and child seats

Infant, child and booster seats are provided free on request. Tell us how old the children are when you book and we bring the right ones. UK law expects a child seat until a child is 12 or 135 cm tall, with narrow exemptions for taxis and private hire vehicles.

Wheelchair and mobility

Ask for a wheelchair-accessible vehicle when you book and tell us the chair’s size and whether it folds. Help inside the terminal is called Assisted Travel and is booked through your airline or the airport.

Assistance dogs and pets

Assistance dogs travel with you at no extra charge, as the Equality Act 2010 requires of licensed drivers. Other pets are at the driver’s discretion: tell us when you book, bring a carrier or a lead, and we confirm before you fly.

Large and oversized luggage

Golf clubs, skis, surfboards, prams, bicycles and oversized bags are fine with notice. Tell us the item and its size at booking, so a vehicle with enough load space is sent.

Groups and luggage

Seats are not the limit: bags are

Booking mistakes at airports usually come down to luggage. Four adults fit in a car; four adults with four large suitcases do not.

Safety and licensing

Safety and licensing: what stands behind a Stansted transfer

A pre-booked private hire transfer is regulated differently from an unlicensed lift. This is what the rules mean for your journey.

A licensed driver and vehicle

Private hire in England needs a licensed operator, a licensed driver and a licensed vehicle, and the licensing authority sets and checks the conditions. Your confirmation names the driver and the car, so you can check the plate against it.

Background checks

Licensing authorities require a criminal-record check as part of a private hire driver licence, and licences must be renewed. Ask us if you want to know which authority licensed your driver.

Tested vehicles

Licensed vehicles are tested to the authority’s standard and must hold a valid MOT, plus insurance that covers passengers who pay. We choose the vehicle class that fits your party and your bags.

Someone to call

Phone, WhatsApp or email, from booking until you reach your destination. If something goes wrong with the driver or the vehicle, tell us at once, with your booking reference.

Licensing rules differ between London and the rest of England. If you want the licence number or the authority for your journey, ask us before you travel.

What is included

What your Stansted fare covers

The things a meter or an app can add on top are already inside the quoted fare. The detail behind each item is in our terms and in your confirmation.

A driver at Arrivals

The driver is at the arrivals meeting point with a board bearing your name, and lifts the luggage into the car.

Your flight, followed

Your inbound flight is tracked, so a delay shifts the pickup to the new landing time without any action from you.

An hour of free waiting

On airport arrivals the first hour after landing is free of charge, normally enough for passport control and the baggage belt (your booking terms apply).

One fixed fare

You agree the price when you book, and it covers the whole vehicle rather than each person. VAT, airport charges and tolls, where they apply, are listed in the booking summary.

Child seats at no cost

Baby, toddler and booster seats are provided when you ask for them. UK law expects a child seat until age 12 or a height of 135 cm, with narrow exemptions for taxis and private hire vehicles.

Licensed drivers

Every journey is driven by a licensed driver, and the confirmation gives the driver’s name and the car.

Free cancellation

You can cancel without charge up to 24 hours before pickup. Later cancellations and no-shows are handled under the terms.

Someone to call

Reach us by phone, WhatsApp or email from the moment you book until you arrive.

Bags that fit the vehicle are covered by the fare. Additional stops, and waiting beyond the included time, are priced separately on request.

How it works

Booking to arrival in four steps

Booking takes a few minutes. After that, this is how the day runs.

  1. Add your flight number

Of all the fields, this is the one that matters. It lets us follow the real landing time, so an early or late arrival makes no difference to you.

  2. Receive the driver’s details

Ahead of the pickup you are sent the driver’s name, mobile number and the meeting point. Switch your phone on as soon as you leave flight mode.

  3. Follow the signs to Arrivals

Passport control and baggage can overrun, and the first 60 minutes after landing are included in the fare for airport arrivals. If you are held up for longer than that, message the driver.

  4. Your fare is settled online

Payment is taken online when you book, and the confirmation email follows once it has gone through. The fare printed on it is the one you pay.

Questions

Your Stansted Airport taxi questions

How much is a taxi from Stansted Airport to central London?
Our guide price starts from £116 for a saloon to central London (EC and WC postcodes), fixed per vehicle when you book, with a driver waiting for you in Arrivals and 60 minutes of waiting after landing included. Other parts of London cost less or more: King’s Cross and Stratford from £81, Victoria and Euston from £84, Paddington from £92, Canary Wharf from £113. Guide prices: fares can change, and the exact fare is shown on the booking page before you pay.
Is the price per person or per vehicle?
Per vehicle. A guide price of £116 to central London is for the whole saloon, so it is shared by everyone in the car. Larger vehicles have their own fares, shown on the booking page before you pay. Guide prices: fares can change, and the exact fare is shown on the booking page before you pay.
How far is Stansted Airport from central London?
About 38 miles by road, and you should allow 60–90 minutes by car, longer at rush hour. The Stansted Express train takes about 47 minutes to Liverpool Street.
Is Stansted Airport in London?
No: it is in Essex, near the village of Stansted Mountfitchet, on the M11 at junction 8. “London Stansted” is the airport’s marketing name. That is why a taxi to central London is a journey of about 38 miles, not a short city ride.
How many terminals does Stansted Airport have?
One main terminal. Departure gates are in the main building and in satellite buildings, but every flight uses the same terminal for check-in and the same Arrivals hall, so there is no terminal to choose. The address is Bassingbourn Road, Stansted CM24 1QW.
At Stansted, where exactly does the driver meet me?
In the Arrivals hall, next to a board with your surname. The driver then escorts you to the car. The meeting spot and the driver’s mobile number are in your confirmation email.
What is the Stansted Airport drop-off charge?
£10 for up to 15 minutes and £28 for up to 30 minutes, with a 30-minute maximum stay, as reported for 2026. Cameras read number plates, payment is due by 23:59 the next day, and an unpaid or over-stay charge notice is £100 (£60 if paid within 14 days). The airport sets and changes the tariff, so check its website before you travel.
Does the fare include the Stansted drop-off charge?
Any airport charge that applies is shown in the booking summary before you pay. The fare on the booking page is the one you confirm. If you want the charge, or the free Mid Stay set-down, explained for your trip, ask us.
How can I avoid the Stansted Airport drop-off charge?
Take the train or a coach, or use the Mid Stay car park. The airport’s Mid Stay car park has been reported to offer a free set-down period, with a free shuttle bus to the terminal about every 10 minutes taking about 7 minutes. Terms change, so check the airport’s current page. The Stansted Express station is a couple of minutes from Arrivals.
Can I just take a taxi from the rank at Stansted?
Yes. Licensed taxis queue at a rank outside the main terminal. They run on the meter. A pre-booked private hire car is different: the fare is fixed at booking and the driver is already waiting.
Is there an official airport taxi firm at Stansted?
We are an independent booking service, not the airport’s own operator. There is no desk to find and no queue to join; the driver is in Arrivals with your name. Stansted Airport Limited runs the airport and sets its own access and drop-off charges.
How long does the Stansted Express take, and what does it cost?
About 47 minutes to London Liverpool Street, with trains about every 15 minutes, calling at Tottenham Hale and Stratford on many services (Greater Anglia). Advance singles have been advertised from about £9.90, and walk-up fares are higher: check the current fare and timetable before you travel. The station is a short walk from Arrivals.
Which is better from Stansted to London, a taxi or the train?
The train is quick and cheaper for one or two people with light bags going to a station near Liverpool Street or Stratford. A taxi is for door-to-door journeys, a group, children, heavy luggage, a very early or late flight, or any address that is not near a station. From £116 to central London, the fare is shared by everyone in the car.
Is a pre-booked transfer better than a black cab from Stansted?
The difference is certainty. A rank taxi runs on the meter, so the fare depends on the traffic over a journey of 60–90 minutes. A pre-booked transfer has its fare shown before you pay, and the driver is already waiting. Guide prices: fares can change, and the exact fare is shown on the booking page before you pay.
Do coaches run from Stansted Airport?
Yes. National Express runs routes A6 and A9 to London Victoria (around 90 minutes to 2 hours), and Terravision, Airport Bus Express, easyBus and FlixBus also serve the airport, at fares reported from about £8 to £14. Services change, so check each operator’s timetable.
What if my flight is late, or lands at a different airport?
A late flight needs no action from you: we follow the flight number and move the pickup to the new landing time. If the plane is diverted to another airport, contact us as soon as you know so the driver can be rerouted; a refund cannot be promised in every case, so read your terms.
How much waiting time is included at Stansted?
The first 60 minutes after landing. The clock starts at your actual landing time, which is normally long enough for passport control and baggage. If you are held longer, message the driver.
Which visitors need an ETA for Stansted?
Most visitors from visa-free countries. Anyone who is neither British nor Irish needs an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) or an eVisa to enter the UK, babies and children included. The ETA is tied to your passport and costs £20. British and Irish citizens, and people with UK immigration status, are exempt. Apply on the official GOV.UK ETA page or in the UK ETA app before you travel, and check your nationality there.

What time should I be picked up for my Stansted flight?
Add the drive time, two hours at the airport and a 30-minute margin, and round up to the next 15 minutes. From Chelmsford (about 35 minutes) that is 3 hours 15 minutes before departure; from central London (up to 90 minutes) it is 4 hours. Add an hour for long-haul flights and more at holiday peaks. If in doubt, take the earlier pickup.

Are tolls and the London Congestion Charge in the fare?
The fare you confirm on the booking page is final, and any toll or Congestion Charge that applies is shown in the booking summary. What do Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton and London City charge for drop-off?

How much luggage fits in each car?
Bags decide the vehicle, not seats. A saloon takes 4 passengers and 2 large bags, an estate 4 passengers and 3 large bags, and an executive car 3 passengers and 2 large bags. A people carrier or an 8 seater has more room: give us the number of large cases, cabin bags, pushchairs and golf bags when you book and we pick the vehicle.
Do I tip the driver?
No. A tip is a thank-you, not an obligation. The fare is agreed when you book and tipping is not expected in the UK. Some passengers round up or add a little for help with heavy luggage or an early start; it is entirely your choice.
Can an assistance dog or a pet travel with me?
Assistance dogs travel with you free of charge. The Equality Act 2010 requires licensed taxi and private hire drivers to carry an assistance dog unless they hold a medical exemption certificate: see section 170. Other pets are for the driver to agree: tell us at booking, bring a carrier or a lead, and we confirm before you fly.
Can I travel with golf clubs, skis, a bicycle or other large items?
Yes, with notice. Tell us the item and its size at booking so a vehicle with enough load space is sent. A saloon that is full of passengers rarely has room for golf bags or a bicycle as well.
What should I do if I forget something in the car?
Get in touch as soon as you notice, quoting your booking reference and flight number. We ask the driver to search the vehicle and let you know the result. If it was left in the terminal, try the airport’s lost property service.
How can I pay?
You pay securely online when you book, and the payment options are shown on the booking page. Your confirmation is emailed once the payment is processed, and the fare on it is the fare you pay.
How do I alter or cancel a booking?
You can cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before pickup. To change a time, date or address, reply to your confirmation email or message us on WhatsApp and we update it. Later cancellations and no-shows fall under the terms.

Who do I contact with a complaint?
Write to us first, giving the booking reference and what went wrong. We look into it with the driver and reply. Private hire drivers and vehicles are licensed by a local authority or Transport for London, depending on where they are licensed, and the authority handles complaints about drivers who break licence conditions.
Who operates the Stansted transfers, and are they licensed?
Global Airport Taxi trades as QMH Technologies Ltd (company no. 13506378). Every journey is carried out by a licensed driver in a licensed vehicle, and your confirmation names both.
How can I spot an unlicensed driver at Stansted?
Stick to the signed rank or to the driver waiting with your name. In England, a private hire driver may only carry someone who has booked. If a stranger offers you a ride in the terminal, say no: your booked driver is in the Arrivals hall holding a board.
How busy is Stansted Airport?
It handled more than 30 million passengers in 2025, making it one of the UK’s busiest airports, with Dublin, Istanbul and Edinburgh among its top destinations. A plan to grow to 51 million passengers a year was approved in December 2025, so building work and changes to the roads and car parks are likely over the coming years.
How do I book a taxi to Stansted Airport?
Enter your address, the date and the time on the booking page, choose a vehicle and pay online. The fare is shown before you pay, and your confirmation is emailed straight away. For a pickup from the airport, add your flight number so the driver can track the landing.
What happens after I book a Stansted airport taxi?
You receive an email confirmation with your fare, the pickup details and your booking reference. The driver and the vehicle are named on it. If your flight time changes, reply to the email or message us on WhatsApp and we update the booking.
How early should I book a taxi for an early-morning flight?
Book as soon as you know your flight, and at least 24 hours ahead so you can still change or cancel free. Work back from the departure time: the drive, about 2 hours at the airport and a 30-minute margin. From Chelmsford that is about 3 h 15 min before a flight, so a 06:00 departure means leaving around 02:45. Use the pickup time guide on this page for your own address.
What is the best way to reach Stansted Airport?
The right choice depends on your start point and your bags. The Stansted Express is quick from Liverpool Street (about 47 minutes) and a coach is the cheapest from London, but a pre-booked taxi is better from a home, a hotel or a small town without a direct train, or when you have luggage, children, or a very early or late flight. The comparison table on this page lays them side by side.
Is a pre-booked taxi better than an app like Uber for Stansted?
A pre-booked taxi has a fixed fare and a driver who tracks your flight. App fares can change with demand, and with a late landing you may wait for a driver to be allocated. Whichever you use, check the pickup point shown in the app or on your confirmation before you walk out of the terminal.
Do you take passengers to and from Bishop’s Stortford, Saffron Walden, Harlow and other nearby towns?
Yes. Short local journeys are booked the same way as long ones. Type your address on the booking page and it shows the fare for that address before you pay. Chelmsford starts from £84 and Cambridge from £93 for a saloon; every guide price can change.
How far is Stansted Airport from Tottenham Hale and Liverpool Street?
Liverpool Street is about 38 miles by road and Tottenham Hale about 30 miles. On the Stansted Express, Tottenham Hale is the first London stop, and Liverpool Street is about 47 minutes from the airport. Allow 60 to 90 minutes by car to the City, longer in the rush hour.
Do you offer minibus and group transfers from Stansted Airport?
Yes. Our fleet runs from saloons to 7-seater, 8-seater and 16-seater minibus vehicles. Choose the vehicle that fits both the people and the bags, then book it on the booking page. For a larger group, message us on WhatsApp with the numbers and the flight details.
Can I get a taxi from Stansted late at night, after the last train?
Yes. A pre-booked driver tracks your flight and is there when you land. The 60 minutes of waiting included in the fare start at the landing time, so a late arrival is covered. Check Greater Anglia and the coach operators for the night timetable if you plan to use public transport instead.
Where can a friend collect me from Stansted, and what will it cost?
A friend can use the terminal drop-off area, which is reported to cost £10 for up to 15 minutes and £28 for up to 30 minutes. The Mid Stay car park has been reported to offer a free set-down period with a shuttle bus to the terminal. A driver waiting in Arrivals with your name avoids all of this. Charges can change, so check the airport’s website.
When is a taxi cheaper than the train from Stansted?
On the fare alone the train is usually cheaper for one or two people, with advance Stansted Express singles advertised from about £9.90. The taxi is a fixed price for the vehicle, so three people to central London pay about £39 each, and the car goes door to door with the bags. It also leaves when you land, whatever the train timetable says.
