How much is a taxi from Málaga Airport to Estepona?
Málaga Airport runs a closed destination tariff, so the rank fare is set in advance rather than built up on an open meter. Two rates apply. Tariff 1 covers Monday to Friday, 06:00 to 22:00. Tariff 2 covers every Saturday, every Sunday, every public holiday and weekday nights from 22:00.
What makes Estepona different from the routes closer in is the toll. The published tariff is quoted without it, and this journey passes two toll points before Estepona town and a third before Puerto de la Duquesa. Estepona produces the widest gap between a rank fare and a booked transfer of any mainstream route on this coast, because it's the one place where both variables move against you at once: the higher weekend tariff and the summer toll rate, on a journey that pays the toll twice.

Even in the best possible conditions for the rank — a winter weekday, the lower tariff and the lower toll — the comparison is €106 plus €9.50, so €115.50 against €99. This is the one route in our Costa del Sol network where the booked transfer wins in every band and every season, and we don't have to work at the argument to get there.
How long does it take? 85 km, about 75 minutes
The AP-7 runs south-west through the full resort strip. Past Marbella and Puerto Banús the road thins out and the pace picks up, which is why the last third of the journey is the quickest. In normal conditions it's 70 to 75 minutes; in July and August the stretch between Fuengirola and Marbella can add 15 to 20.

Is there a bus to Estepona?
Yes, and it's better than on most routes here. A direct coach runs from the airport to Estepona bus station, roughly hourly through the day, from about €9 to €13 per person, taking an hour and a half to an hour and three-quarters. For one or two people arriving in the afternoon with light luggage, that's a sensible choice and we'd say so.
The limits are the usual ones and they bite hardest on this route: services stop in the early evening, the drop is at the bus station rather than your accommodation, and there's no room for golf bags or oversized cases. From the bus station to a New Golden Mile villa is another taxi, which removes most of the saving.
Town, New Golden Mile, or Puerto de la Duquesa?
The Estepona area runs about 20 km along the coast, and the character changes completely across it — from luxury villa urbanisations at the eastern end, through a genuinely handsome old town, out to a self-contained marina resort in the west.
The Golden Mile and the New Golden Mile are not the same place
They're about 15 km apart and this catches people out constantly. The original Golden Mile is the strip between Marbella old town and Puerto Banús — Marbella Club, Puente Romano. The New Golden Mile runs from San Pedro de Alcántara down to Estepona. Booking confirmations use both names loosely, and a driver sent to the wrong one is twenty minutes away. Give the development name and full address.
New Golden Mile
The stretch between San Pedro de Alcántara and Estepona town — La Resina, Cancelada, Seghers, Selwo and the Estepona Golf area. Large gated estates and a substantial long-stay villa market. Reached before the Estepona exits, so it's actually a shorter drive than the town.

The main town, with a Casco Antiguo of whitewashed, flower-hung streets around Plaza de las Flores and a long beach promenade. Well-mapped addresses and straightforward vehicle access — the easiest delivery on this route.

Same 85 km, same motorway, same tolls — and the same Tariff 2 if you're catching a morning flight at a weekend. A rank taxi collecting from Estepona at 06:30 on a Saturday in August is on the higher rate with the summer toll, exactly as on the way in.
For New Golden Mile guests there's a second problem. You cannot hail a taxi from a gated urbanisation, and the nearest reliable rank is in Estepona town — which is no use at five in the morning. Book the return with the arrival and send a map pin with any gate code.
