A pre-booked transfer or taxi, door to door. There is no direct public transport: you go into Paris and change to the RER C, which makes the whole trip roughly 1.5 to 2 hours.
No. Flat fares only cover Orly and Paris itself. A taxi to Versailles is charged by the meter, with a minimum fare of €8. How the regulated fares work is explained in our taxi prices guide.
The Palace and the Trianon estate are closed on Mondays, on 25 December and on 1 January. The gardens stay open daily, according to the Château de Versailles.
No. The Château says large baggage items exceeding 55 × 35 × 25 cm are not admitted on the estate, and every bag and vehicle is checked. Go to your hotel first.
Cars and coaches use the paid parking at the Place d’Armes in front of the Palace. Coach parking is only at the Place d’Armes or the Trianon crossroads.

Versailles is close to Orly, but not on a direct public transport line.
| Way to go | Time | What you pay | Who it suits | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pre-booked transfer Global Airport Taxi | About 30–45 min by road | Shown in your quote before you pay, for the vehicle | Luggage, families and groups, hotel drop-offs | Door to door to your hotel, so the suitcases never reach the Château gates. |
| Official taxi | About 30–45 min by road | By the meter, because Versailles is outside Paris | Short-notice trips | The minimum fare is €8. The Orly flat fares do not reach Versailles. |
| Public transport | Roughly 1.5 to 2 hours with changes | Airport ticket plus the onward fare, depending on route | One or two travellers with light bags | No direct route. Go into Paris and change to the RER C for Versailles Château–Rive Gauche, a 10-minute walk from the Palace. |
Public transport times are our estimate from the Paris connections. The RER C takes about 35–40 minutes from central Paris to Versailles. Check RATP and SNCF before you travel.
Château rules
Three rules from the Château de Versailles decide whether you can go straight from the airport.
The Palace is open every day except Monday and opens at 9 am. It closes at 17:30 from November to March and 18:30 from April to October. The Trianon estate opens at noon from Tuesday to Sunday. The gardens are open daily, about 8 am to 6 pm, and the park from 7 am to 8:30 pm. Check the Château’s practical information for your date.
For the anti-terrorist security plan every bag and vehicle is checked on entry, and large baggage items exceeding 55 × 35 × 25 cm are not admitted on the estate. A cabin-size case is borderline; a full-size suitcase is not allowed.
The Place d’Armes car park, in front of the Palace, takes cars and coaches and is open 24 hours (paid). Coaches can only park at the Place d’Armes or at the Trianon crossroads in the park. See the Château’s plan your visit page.

Your landing time
Four common situations.
| When you land | What we would do |
|---|---|
| Landing before about 08:30 | Go to your hotel first, then visit. The Palace opens at 9 am and bags over the size limit cannot enter. |
| Landing mid-morning to about 13:00 | Drop your luggage at your hotel, then visit the gardens or the Palace. The Trianon estate opens at noon, Tuesday to Sunday. |
| Landing mid-afternoon | The Palace closes at 17:30 in winter and 18:30 in summer, so the gardens (open to 18:00) are the realistic plan. |
| Landing on a Monday | The Palace and Trianon are closed. The gardens are open, so plan a transfer to your hotel and visit the gardens or wait until Tuesday. |
On the day
Short, useful and specific to Versailles.
Say whether you want the Place d’Armes, a hotel in the town or the Trianon estate. The Château, the town centre and the Trianon are not the same stop.
Traffic around the Château builds up at weekends and on public holidays. Add time if you have a timed entry.
A 16-seater minicoach, a 30-seater coach or a 50-seater coach must park where the Château allows. We can suggest the right size, but the drop-off and parking happen at the Place d’Armes or the Trianon crossroads.
Questions

The Château does not admit large suitcases, so most visitors go to their hotel first. A pre-booked transfer solves that: you are collected at Orly and taken door to door to your hotel in Versailles or Paris, and you can book a second short ride for the visit itself. Tell us the exact stop you want, whether that is the hotel, the Place d’Armes or the Trianon, add your flight number, and see the fare for each vehicle before you pay. Groups can choose a 16-seater minicoach or a larger coach, bearing in mind that coaches may only park at the Place d’Armes or the Trianon crossroads.
