Marseille Provence Airport at a glance
Marseille Provence Airport is in Marignane, about 27 km north-west of Marseille, right on the shore of the Étang de Berre. It opened in 1922, and in 2025 it handled 11.3 million passengers, which makes it France's second-busiest regional airport after Nice. Around seven in ten of those passengers are on international flights, with North Africa one of the fastest-growing markets.
You'll find Air France, easyJet, Ryanair, Volotea, Transavia, Vueling, Air Corsica, Air Algérie and many more here, flying to over 100 destinations. For most visitors it's the natural way into Provence: Aix-en-Provence is half an hour away, the Calanques and Cassis less than an hour, and the Luberon, Avignon and the Camargue are all within easy reach by road.
The terminal building itself is worth a look. In June 2024 the airport opened a new central hall, known as the Cœur, designed by Foster + Partners. It adds around 22,000 m² of bright, tree-filled space between the older Halls A and B, and in 2025 Terminal 1 was named on the Prix Versailles list of the world's most beautiful airports.

Terminal guide
Where to find your driver at T1 and MP2
MRS has two separate terminal buildings, and your meeting point depends on which one you land at. Your airline booking or boarding pass will tell you. If it's MP2, make sure it's on your transfer booking too.
Terminal 1: the main terminal
Most airlines use Terminal 1, including Air France, Air Corsica, Air Algérie, British Airways, Lufthansa and Vueling. It's made up of Hall A, Hall B and the new central Cœur building that joins them. Departures are upstairs, with check-in and security on the first floor; arrivals and baggage reclaim are on the ground floor.
After you collect your bags and pass through the exit doors, you're in the public arrivals area. This is where private drivers wait, not at the taxi rank outside. Stay inside and look for your name.

Terminal 2 (MP2): the low-cost terminal
MP2 opened in 2006 as one of Europe's first terminals built just for low-cost airlines, and Ryanair is its biggest user. It's a plain, compact building with short walking distances, so you're usually out of the door within minutes of collecting your bag.
MP2 is a separate building from Terminal 1, a few minutes' walk away. When you've booked with us and land at MP2, your driver meets you at the MP2 arrivals exit, so there's no need to cross to Terminal 1. If your airline moves you to the other terminal at the last minute, don't worry: we see the change through flight tracking.
Heading to the taxi rank or the bus station instead? Both are on the Terminal 1 side, so allow a short walk with your luggage.
Taxis, buses and ride-hail pick-ups
Taxi rank. The official rank is in front of Terminal 1 and is served 24 hours a day by a fleet of around 86 airport taxis. Fares run on the meter under tariffs set by the Bouches-du-Rhône prefecture, with higher rates at night, on Sundays and on public holidays. Only get into a car at the official rank, and politely ignore anyone offering you a ride inside the terminal.
Buses. The airport bus station has departures on Line A1 to Marseille Saint-Charles, Line A2 to Aix-en-Provence via Aix TGV, and regional coaches to Toulon, Nice, Nîmes and Montpellier. Tickets are sold online, at the counter or on board by contactless card.
Uber, Bolt and other apps. App drivers can't wait at the kerb, so you'll be sent to the ride-hail pick-up zone. Follow the signs and check the app for the exact spot.
Pre-booked transfers. You don't need any of the above. Your driver comes into the arrivals hall to find you, then walks you to the car.
Facilities worth knowing about
Wi-Fi is free throughout the airport. Terminal 1 has the widest choice of shops, cafés and restaurants, with plenty of local products such as Marseille soap and calissons from Aix, plus a VIP lounge. MP2 keeps things simple, with a café, a newsagent and duty free. There's no lounge at MP2.
Car hire desks for the main brands are in the arrivals area, and there are cash machines and a currency exchange in Terminal 1. The airport also runs a left-luggage and baggage wrapping service.
If you or someone in your group has reduced mobility, ask your airline for assistance at least 48 hours before you fly. Let us know too, and we'll send a vehicle with the space and help you need.

Best for touring the countryside, not for staying in the city
Our honest take
If you're on your own, land in daytime, carry one bag and are staying near Saint-Charles, take the A1 bus. It's quick and cheap. Once there are two or more of you, or you land late, have children or luggage, or your hotel isn't near the station, a pre-booked transfer usually works out better. Two bus tickets plus a taxi or metro from Saint-Charles soon adds up to most of the fare, and you skip the queues and the changes.

Rush hour on the A7
The drive into Marseille is almost all motorway. It's easy off-peak, but between roughly 07:30–09:30 and 17:00–19:30 on weekdays the approach to the city and the tunnels can add 15 minutes or more. For early flights home, book a pickup with room to spare.
Low-emission zone (ZFE)
Central Marseille is a Zone à Faibles Émissions, and vehicles need a valid Crit'Air sticker to drive in it. That matters if you hire a car. With us, it's handled: our vehicles are compliant and nothing is added to your fare.
Taxi or VTC?
In France, only licensed taxis can pick up passengers who flag them down or join a rank. Private-hire drivers (VTC) must be booked in advance. Anyone approaching you in the arrivals hall offering a ride is operating illegally, so always use the rank or a booked driver.
Catching a cruise or ferry
Marseille has a large cruise terminal in the north of the port and a separate ferry terminal near La Joliette for Corsica, Sardinia and North Africa. Tell us your ship or ferry company when you book so your driver takes you to the right one.

What to see once you've landed
Marseille is France's oldest city and one of its most surprising. These are the places our drivers are asked about most, with the fare from the airport.
Notre-Dame de la Garde
Locals call it "la Bonne Mère", and you'll see its gilded statue from almost everywhere in the city. The striped Romano-Byzantine basilica was consecrated in 1864 and sits on Marseille's highest point. Go late in the afternoon for the view over the port, the Frioul islands and the coast. Entry is free.

The Calanques and Cassis
White limestone cliffs drop into turquoise coves all the way from Marseille to Cassis, and the whole area is a national park. Walk to Port-Pin or En-Vau from Cassis, or take a boat trip from the harbour. In summer, trails can close on high fire-risk days and some coves need a free reservation, so check the park's website the day before.

Vieux-Port and Le Panier
Greek sailors founded the city here around 600 BC, and the Old Port is still where Marseille comes to meet. Catch the morning fish market on the Quai des Belges, then climb into Le Panier, the oldest quarter, for its steep lanes, street art and small cafés. The Noailles market nearby has the best spices in town.

MuCEM and Cosquer Méditerranée
Two of the city's best museums stand side by side on the J4 waterfront. Rudy Ricciotti's lace-concrete MuCEM, opened in 2013, is linked by footbridge to Fort Saint-Jean. Next door, Cosquer Méditerranée recreates an underwater cave whose paintings are over 30,000 years old, and you visit it in small pods that glide through the replica.

Château d'If
Built in the 1520s under François I and later used as a prison, this island fortress is where Alexandre Dumas locked up Edmond Dantès in The Count of Monte Cristo. Boats leave from the Vieux-Port and take around 20 minutes. Combine it with the Frioul islands for a half-day at sea.

Aix-en-Provence
Half an hour from the airport, Aix feels a world away from Marseille: honey-coloured mansions, mossy fountains and the plane trees of the Cours Mirabeau. Cézanne was born here and painted Montagne Sainte-Victoire again and again. Visit on a market morning for lavender, olives and calissons.

At dawn, a procession leaves the Vieux-Port for the Abbaye Saint-Victor, and the Four des Navettes bakery sells its orange-blossom navette biscuits. It's a short but crowded morning around the south side of the port.

The trip takes 30 to 50 minutes and a single ticket costs around €10.
Can I take the train from Marseille Airport?
There is no station inside the terminals. A connecting bus, lebus13, runs from platform 5 of the airport bus station to Vitrolles-Aéroport Marseille Provence station in about 5 minutes. From there, TER trains run to Marseille Saint-Charles, Arles, Avignon and Miramas.
Can I use Uber or Bolt at Marseille Airport?
Yes, ride-hailing apps operate at MRS, but prices change with demand and often rise when several flights land at once. You also have to walk to the ride-hail pick-up area. A pre-booked transfer costs the same whatever time you land and your driver meets you inside.
Do you provide child seats?
Yes. Add the number and ages of the children when you book and the right infant seat, child seat or booster will be fitted before your driver arrives. French law requires a suitable child restraint for children under 10 in most cases.
How much luggage can I bring?
A standard car suits up to three passengers with one large suitcase and one small bag each. If you have more bags, or skis, golf clubs, bikes or a pushchair, choose an MPV or minibus when you book so everything fits.

Yes. You can cancel or change your booking free of charge up to 24 hours before pickup, with a full refund for eligible cancellations.
Should I tip my driver in France?
Tipping is not expected in France and it is never added to your fare. If your driver goes out of their way to help, rounding up or leaving a few euros is a kind gesture, but it is entirely up to you.
What is the difference between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 (MP2)?
Terminal 1 handles most scheduled and international airlines and was extended and renovated in 2024. Terminal 2, called MP2, is a separate, simpler building used by low-cost airlines. The two are a short walk apart. Always check your booking shows the right terminal.
How early should I get to Marseille Airport for my flight?
